Myself, these guys together with cucumbers are a little hard to grow here as the bugs usually get them. I hope to get a couple from this plant though. got some serious bugs in Zululand.
I generally try not to, if i do its usually a mixture of garlic, chillies, tobacco and water. I let it ferment for a couple days and then spray the plants. The nicotine from the tobacco together with the garlic and chillies seems to ward off most bugs. Just the beetles that get through in the days you dont spray is enough to decimate a crop, and Zululand has many many species of beetles.

Don't you use anything for the bugs??? I'm just very curious cause I want to grow my own veggies and teach something new to my daughters.
