The Philippine Gumamela Flower
Gumamela is a shrub that grows up to four meters high. It is commonly grown in the Philippines as an ornamental plant. Its flower comes in different colors: white, pink, orange, red, yellow, or in some color combinations. Gumamela flowers may also come as single or double-petalled.
Some quarters claim that gumamela has some medicinal characteristics. There are those who say that a decoction of its flowers can be used as a remedy for simple coughs and even bronchitis. It is said to be diuretic, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory. These claims, however, still need thorough clinical investigations.
