Totally agree @ascension, they are some of the most biodiverse places on the planet and are under increasing pressure. A network of marine reserves functioning across international boundaries would be a great step in the right direction but politically it would be very challenging to establish. Education is the key and we shouldn't give up just because something is difficult. :)

Yes unfortunately the political interests are often antagonistic to environmental concerns, something I had the misfortune of experiencing at my time at the UN. I personally like to think of tech advancement being the key to helping in such areas- maybe in a few decades we can massively reduce/reverse the negative impact that has afflicted these ecosystems and biomes. It's sad to think of species like the Hawksbill turtle (more East African but first animal that comes to mind) dying out :(
