Colour Challenge: A new butterfly

in #colorchallenge8 years ago

New to me, that is; I had never seen one before. We found this one in heather near the Aamsveen, a peat bog in the East of The Netherlands.

It is actually a moth called clouded buff (Diacrisia sannio), roodbandbeer in Dutch. They like to hide in heather and flee just when you have a shot set up; they are a pain to photograph, but I got a good shot of one:

As this things often go, we saw another one within days of having seen the first one, in another location entirely, the Buurserzand:

Thanks for watching!

WOW! What a capture you made there! I first thought this were a species from asia or so, did not know that such an exotic moth would live in Europe!

Neither did I, to be honest. But I keep finding new species (new to me, that is) here in The Netherlands, so I may find more 8-).

I wish you luck and will be looking forward to see them here! Have a wonderful evening!

I almost wrote no way its a moth :P
but you wrote it hahaha
you !

Nice shot. Haven't seen one of those before. Thanks for supporting my blog and I have done likewise. Sorry yesterday I went a bit wild with the posting. 😊

Lovely butterfly!

Thank you.

Really vivid colouration! They look like miniature triangular warning signs. Nature has such a never-ending ability to show us new things =)

Indeed. Even after years of nature photography in a relatively small region, I still find new animals and plants.

It's impressive!

Excellent work! Thank you for the great photo!

My pleasure.
