This post is part of the #colorchallenge organized by @kalemandra.
Here is a bug's eye view of a California Poppy, the state flower. These blooms are usually more on the orange side but, because of the light and the angle, this one glows, representing the "Golden State" well!
Starting in late Spring all the way through the summer, you can find these flowers on the coast and in the foothills brightening up the landscape.
A FEW FUN FACTS:
- Named the state flower in 1903
- Other names are flame flower and copa de oro (cup of gold)
- A food and oil source for Native Americans, back in the day
I took this photo at Asilomar Conference Center. What a beautiful day!
BONUS IMAGE: This is a photo from http://vault.sierraclub.org/ca/ of Antelope Valley, CA. I have never been through this area at this time of year...looks like I should make some plans for next Spring!
