Color Challenge Friday Blue - The Crucifix and the Calvary (Prague)

This seemed like an appropriate entry for Good Friday. This is also my entry for the daily Prague/Czech Republic photo challenge hosted by @czechglobalhosts. You can find out more about that here.

The Crucifix and the Calvary is one of the 30 statues that line the Charles Bridge in Prague. The history of this statue is pretty interesting. Originally on this spot, a wooden cross was placed in 1361. However, being wood, it eventually was destroyed. A new wooden cross was built here in 1629 that also was damaged and destroyed in a war. Finally, in 1657, a metal statue was created to memorialize the crucifixion of Christ. This statue has now endured here for over 350 years!

I wish all my Steemit friends a happy and healthy Easter weekend!

Beautiful colors, love the green and gold on the cross. Are the two guys at the base of it statues or people?

Those are statues. The original statues were made out of lead. Yikes. Thankfully, those were eventually replaced with the stone ones there now.
