The Big Pineapple, Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia 🇦🇺
This 16m high pineapple 🍍 made from fibreglass and metal was built in 1971 at the Sunshine Plantation tourist attraction. Although the tourist attraction fell into decline as the thrill of seeking faux giant fruit has faded. The Big Pineapple has recently been refurbished to its former glory.
Has anyone visited the Big Pineapple?
My parents were pineapple farmers, so we visited many times as kids in the 1980s when growers meetings were held there. We would camp at Forest Glen holiday park for a week on school holidays and visit the deer sanctuary along with Superbee and the Big Cow, and go for scenic drives in the Glass House Mountains and stop by and see the potters working at the pottery shop in Montville.
I'm trying to work out where the Big Cow and Superbee were/are, as the new highway bypass (and my childhood memory) have me disoriented.
I will have to check out the pineapple again next time I am going by, as last time I saw it, it was looking very sad and unloved.
Hey 👋 love seeing more Aussies on Steemit. Super bee 🐝 is gone but the big cow still standing although it too had closed. You catch a peek of it northbound on the freeway between Nambour and Yandina
And not to forget the big banana, at Coffs Harbour. Cheers
Never!!!. As far as Faux fruit goes the Big Banana 🍌 is right up there.
