One year, after leaving Joshua Tree National Park, I was hitching back north in the dark. It was a back road in the middle of nowhere, and the only thing that kept me from getting hit by the cars was my little red blinky light. There weren't many cars on the road, but soon one stopped (having seen my blinky) and were willing me to take me to Victorville, Ca. Now one thing about how I travel--I don't sleep overnight in cities, well, not unless I get stuck. So I asked them where was a good place just outside of Victorville to sleep. They took me to an amazing set of rocks, and even though I'd been rained on for three straight days, the sunrise of this place was sooooo worth it. The sky was indeed shades of purple, blue and indigo, and the light amazingly golden.
It just goes to show, once in a great while the folks picking me up know where to drop me off!
