These flowers (at least the ones we get here) have a very strong and unpleasant odor. I am kind of wondering if a patch of them isn't a little unpleasant getting close to?
True? You puzzled me now. I did not notice any smell from them, at least at the distance I needed to take photographs. Although I was close to them when I leaning. But I did not stick a nose in them. Unfortunately, they have already faded. Next year I'll smell it specially. :)

А я даже и не слышала название батун. Темная я в сортах лука. :)
У нас это лук, который раз посеял и забыл, в смысле потом только режешь на салаты всякие, лет десять - пятнадцать, но луковицы у него маленькие и их не используют...
