This is a wrap around cover for an upcoming book. Found a bunch of progress shots, in case you wanna see. I work pretty much traditionally except the coloring and some jacking around with the thumbnails.
starts with the basic idea of course...

then a figure out the vanishing points and details

then the pencils

and onto inking. All the inks are done with a brush ( windsor newton series 7 no.0 ) A pain the the ass, but it gives it more charm. ( I tell myself this)

and that's that, pretty much it.

That black & white is gorgeous. Hard to believe it’s all brush work! It looks like it’d be Microns or Rapidigraph, the line weights are so precise!

Why, thank you! I can get way better lines with a brush. A technical pen drags and digs into the paper, no flex to it.

👏👏👏 Really like your take on old Cthulu. I've been getting tired of the Thanos meets Davey Jones musclebound interpretations so many people present him as.

Thanks! Yeah, my version of Cthulhu is far different than most. Did a few stories with him as the lead.

Very nice. Are you a fan of Georges Remi aka Herge, by chance? He did the adventures of Tin Tin.

I kinda sorta know of Tin Tin because other people have asked. I'm a bigger fan of Windsor McCay, and Basil Wolverton. I'm not sure when/why I started making the oval eyes...musta got it from Orphan Annie or something.
