It’s been a hot minute since I’ve popped up one of these posts, so I figured now is as good a time as any to quit being a complete slacker and share my excitement with you all. For the two or three of you who are kind enough to waste precious minutes of your day perusing my drivel here, you are probably well aware of the complete dork that lives within me. For anyone just checking me out for the first time, know this…I’m a Spider-Man diehard. That’s my boy. Ever since I was a little booger picker all the way up to being a grown up booger picker…I’m a fan of the WebHead.
So much so that my passion is hoarding some truly awesome one of a kind collectibles such as Original Comic Book Art. These are the art pages used to create the actual issues, and in my thirty plus years of collecting various nonsense…they are hands down, the most enjoyable items I’ve ever had the pleasure of hunting down.
In the past I’d buy a figure or a comic, and into a box it would go to just…sit there. But with this art, part of the fun for me is to eventually get it professionally framed up and on display in my ever growing Spidey gallery. I get to actually appreciate my Spidey museum day in and day out, and that is a different feeling from mostly anything else I’ve ever dabbled in.
Plus the fact that I feel like it’s an actual great investment. Published Spidey art is highly sought after by an extremely competitive group of individuals, and shows zero signs of slowing down. Not that I have any intention of moving my pieces…but it doesn’t hurt feeling like it’s a worthwhile investment towards the future. At least my kids will be able to do well with it should I croak unexpectedly.
After a few years of going guns ablazing, I’ve taken a bit of a backseat in the purchasing department for the past year. I’ve been a bit cash poor as of late, but this was one of three pieces that I was slowly paying off for a while. I finally made the last payment recently on this specific page, and I’m thrilled to get it added to the collection. Okay…enough backstory…
This page comes from the current run of Amazing Spider-Man. Issue #6 to be exact…or #900 if going by Legacy numbering which is simply a continuous numbering dating back to ASM #1 all they way back in 1963. This issue was penciled by the awesome Ed McGuinness with inks by the equally awesome, Mark Morales.
This issue featured the first appearance of a new baddie by the name of the Sinister Adaptoid, whom is basically a mash up of all of the members of the Sinister Six. His design was badass and I immediately wanted in on this action. So when Ed & Mark started selling pages from this issue, I jumped.
This specific page (#44) features 4 panels with the top basically being a half splash. 3 of the 4 feature Spidey which is always a gigantic plus. That, topped with new villain screamed out to me. The bottom half of the 11x17 board has Spidey getting twisted & a bit tied up.
I like Ed’s Spidey. It has a really clean look and the page itself has a lot of nice detail. The design of Sinister Adaptoid looks badass as well as it incorporates a little bit of each villain into it. Here is the published page for more context.
I have 2 more pages coming from Ed that I’ll show off below, but I have to stop being a deadbeat and finish paying those off. I’ll hopefully have those wrapped up within the next couple of weeks (Sorry Ed!). I will add that both of these talented fellas have been absolute rockstars regarding the acquisition of these with the patience of a saint. I actually picked up this page in person from Mark as he only lives about 30 minutes from me. Super cool dude!
While I do not have the other 2 pages from this deal yet, I’ll show em off here. The one is the very next page which is groovy. I’d like to eventually get these framed together and hung next to one another. That middle panel is a killer shot!!!
This page is a few later and I jumped on this one as I am a huge Mysterio fan. I only wish it had Doc Ock on it as well since it has the other 5 members (Vulture, Electro, Kraven, Mysterio, & Sandman). I also dig Spidey’s vibe and sense of humor here.
All in all, I’m over the moon to have a new addition to the collection. While these set me back a bit…they will all be entered into the black hole that is my ever growing Spidey gallery. I’ll update once I receive the others after I’m done taking forever paying poor Ed…like I said…the man’s a saint.
See ya around homies!

You must have a fair few now. I'm all about enjoying collectables. Just locking them away is no fun. My main thing is guitar picks and I have all those on display above my desk. They may not be worth much, but they make me smile anyway.
Yeah I'm going to do a proper count tomorrow once I return back home. It's a bunch though. Lol.
After years of buying shit and basically storing em, Im really loving being able to see and appreciate these daily. Well at least the ones I have framed at this point. There's quite the backlog waiting in the wings. Lol
As for guitar picks, that's awesome! Do you have any cool stories on any specific ones that stand out to you?
I've got some picks that were sent to me by people around the world, some of them Hivers. I just got some from @verhp11 that he got at the ABBA museum. I look out for them when travelling, but they are less common than other souvenirs. I did get a Boston one though.
That’s awesome. I’ll keep my eyes open goi g forward. If I come across anything cool I’ll pop it on the side to send out to ya.
Cheers. Picks are at least cheap to send as you can put some in with a letter. I've had some sent to me from the US and Australia.
that's beautiful work you picked up! standard 11x17 size?
Thank you so much! Yup, standard size on this. Funny you should pop by, as just this past week or so…I’ve been goi g through my personal books. Like 200 long boxes worth. Dumb. Anyway, I came across a couple of your books. I put em on the side and was gonna send you a photo. I’ll snap one tonight of what I found. Hope you are well and thanks for popping by!
ah cool, I'd like to see what issues ya found!
Hey! THat is cool! I'm considering getting into comic art myself also! hehehe Great stuff! Congrats!
Thx so much! Got sone stuff to show off? I’d love to see it!
Yeah! Haha Still very crude tho! 😄 You can check it out here: https://peakd.com/hive-161155/@lourencoalart/the-art-of-storyboarding-and-the-writing-of-my-first-comic
This is so sesh. Keep up the good work...
Thx for checking it out homie! Much appreciated. I love sharing this stuff!
My pleasure...
Nice! Been waiting for more Spidey pages. How many are you up to now? Love the Sinister Six minus one page. 😁
I'm out of town until tomorrow evening but I'll do a proper count once home and report back. Yeah it was a sweet one. There were a few other pages from this issue that I was inirerested in but they were either not in a budget I felt comfy with, or were already claimed by some other maniac. Lol
I got to be honest comics/books is not my thing although I love watching Spiderman when I was kid, the amount of enemies he had, I like most of the movies but I have never heard that you could buy comic art bit by bit, shows your dedication, I can see you sitting down in the middle of all this art piece writing this post, similar to when Peter sits down and think out loud, nice you enjoy this hobby ✌️

Well even though it's not your cup of tea, I appreciate you taking the time to give this some attention.
Yeah the comic art game is pretty hardcore and cutthroat. These pieces are one of a kind and if you miss your opportunity for a specific page or cover...usually...that's it. Gage over on that one. At least in the Spidey art community. They usually go to Diamondhand collectors. Lol
Love these posts, @blewitt! Just tossing out a friendly idea for when you get it framed: how about an almost-green border to hint at Adaptoid's looming threat over Spidey? Then we could go with Spidey's classic blue and red for the matte and accents, making it seem like he's nearly overpowered.
I love it! Yeah whenever it comes time to doll this badboy up in its forever frame, there will 100% be some green in the matte or somewhere. I usually try to incorporate a bit of the published piece into the frame job. Good choice sir.
