This THING is Fantastic!!!

in #comics8 days ago

With all the buzz around the snazzy new Fantastic Four Teaser Trailer dropping this morning, I figured I’d share a cool piece of art in my collection with a slight connection to the big guy, The Thing!

In the 2018 (yet another) relaunch of Amazing Spider-Man 1 (802 Legacy), lies a 10 page backup story with incredible pencils by Humberto Ramos & inks by Victor Olazaba. I will humble brag that I own all 10 pages of this important short story & they are all near & dear to my heart for several reasons.

This specific short story being focused on Mysterio while introducing a new Spidey baddie in Kindred are the main reasons I snagged these pages years back, but there’s another aspect I love about this backup that I’m sharing with you here. The first page…this very page features a bunch of heroes that simply don’t appear anywhere else in my Spidey-Centric Art Gallery.

Fantastic Four’s The Thing is front & center on that bottom panel alongside several other heroes that don’t sit anywhere else in my collection but here on this specific page. I mean…Spider-Man…Dr. Strange….Gambit…Captain Marvel…Thor…Wolverine…and The Thing?!! It’s no wonder I jumped on the opportunity to grab the complete story! That in itself, makes this a Fantastic addition to my ever growing horde of Original Comic Art.

That's quite a piece. Cool to have all those characters together.

I hadn't seen the trailer. They have gone retro with the styling this time. They just keep rebooting the characters. I'm not sure I even saw the previous one.

Yeah I love it!

As for the film, this iteration has no connection or bearing to the others as this is under Marvel Studios brand, meaning it’ll connect to what they have been building with the MCU for the past decade and a half. Whereas the other previous films are a different studio and no connection. So folks are excited to see the FF actually be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

I’m excited! But I’m excited for all of this shit. Lol

It's amazing that we have averaged a couple of MCU movies every year. Maintaining quality is not easy. These have to appeal beyond those who have read the comics with so much money involved. I have mostly enjoyed them.

Oh absolutely. For instance, my sister just started watching the MCU stuff and has never read a comic. My wife LOVES most of it and never picked up a comic. I get lots of parents and girlfriends coming in the shop that are big fans of the movies but have also never read a comic. It definitely has a draw that the comics don’t. I wish more folks would see these films and wonder about these characters other adventures more…but it is what it is. I’m thankful it exists at all.

The inking on that page is really clean, super cool cartoonish style too.

You can even see a hint of the blue pencil lines for the construction!

Yeah, I love it. I prefer to collect inks over pencils. I think it just pops more.

I'm waiting for The Thing to be released in Marvel Rivals and be able to play him.

Still have yet to play.

Awesome page! Thing is always fun. I like the dark theater panel even. 😅

Thx homie! Yeah, I love the deep blacks on these pages.
