Trading Up: A Marvelous Deal in Statues at Conquest Comics

Some days, the deals just come right to your doorstep. Today was such a day for me at my shop, Conquest Comics. That's because a gentleman wandered in looking to thin down his Bowen Designs Marvel statue collection a bit.

What’s that, you ask?

Well, Bowen Designs was a statue manufacturer throughout the '90s and 2000s that was the premiere Marvel statue and bust maker with a loyal and hungry base of collectors. Headed by the main man himself, Randy Bowen surrounded himself with a great team of sculptors and painters that catapulted them into collectible stardom with their limited and highly coveted works of art.

The juicy pieces that were on the menu today were as follows:

Ghost Rider on Motorcycle - Limited to 2000

Spider-Woman Statue - Limited to 1500

Hulkbuster Statue - Limited to 1500

Savage Hulk Statue - Limited to 1900

X-Force Wolverine Statue - Limited to 1400

Daredevil Statue - Limited to 4000

Classic Bucky Statue - Limited to 1000

Classic Iron Man Statue - Limited to 3000

The proposed deal by the gentleman was $200 cash, along with all of the statues shown above, in exchange for ONE of the Bowen Designs statues on display in the shop. It seems he was eyeing up the Beta Ray Bill, which I must say is a killer piece.

We quoted him a price of $750 for the classic Thor villain a few weeks back. So, essentially, we ended up giving about $550 in trade in value for the 8 statues. That’s a pretty fair offer, so of course, I accepted. The funny part is that the piece he snagged from us came into our possession about a year and a half ago through yet another statue collection. Ultimately, this is a solid deal not only because we will earn about 3x over than we would just by moving the Beta Ray Bill, but we will also move a few of these relatively quickly. I believe the Hulk, Ghost Rider, and Hulkbuster will get sucked up by hungry collectors fairly quickly, which is groovy as they are the three priciest pieces in the lot. Done deal!
