One of the comic artists that I have read most, copied most, learned most from, and in spite of this never really considered one of my favourite artists is the French cartoonist, Jean Giraud, also known under his pseudonym: Moebius.
I do have a weird and complex relationship with this man's art.
There is a lot of film out there most of it in French, but here is a video portrait from the BBC - which is in English. It sports fascinating personalities like Philippe Druillet and Alejandro Jodorowsky.

This is wonderful - his imagery is quite powerful and to be honest, extremely enigmatic.
I am not ashamed to admit his influence over me. Thanks for posting.
No, I am not ashamed either - he was a great artist. It is a good documentary. My favourite moment is where Jodorowsky says that he don't give a shit about USAmericans and their superheroes. I do like superheros myself, but I also like these old romantic Artists that reject the industrial art and insist on complete artistic freedom.
Maybe a bit offtopic, but if you have the time have a look at how younger generations of french illustrators + animators are reproducing him - Hugo Moreno, Jonathan Djob Nkondo maybe Ugo Bienvenu etc
Excellent i got some great things to see thanks for posting ...
Cool post, it definitely caught my eye. Great stuff.:)
haha great stuff - thanks for sharing
Moebius is amazing. I need to get more familiar with his output. I''ve only read a handful of his stuff for "Heavy Metal". Great post!
good post!! :)
Moebius, man. He is a topic in himself. There is something about this man's art that I just cannot explain. It's enigmatic, but at the same time, it's inviting. Mixing styles that feel "off" sometimes, but never inaccessible.
Sometimes it is like Ghibli, sometimes it is like Peter Chung, sometimes it is like Juan Giménez... Even when he draws Marvel or DC superheroes, they look different somehow. Different beyond aesthetics.
It is truly amazing.
