I wait for your comments with no less excitement than for a post of some favorite author

in #commenting6 years ago

Yesterday when I wrote a post What does it feel to be a boiled crab? where I talked about the thoughts that visited me during the night I received quite a few comments but only 3 people showed that they actually read the post. One of them was my long-time fan and an excellent artist @lildebbiecakes. She wrote:

I had to giggle sorry... I had seen you responded back to nine people in the same way, with the same questions that you asked in your post. “Has this ever happened to you at night? If so, what helped for you to go back to sleep? I would love to read your thoughts in the comments.” This was hilarious to me at first, that you responded back them all in the same way, ( I mean I get why you did that , HA HA.) After all, you were asking a simple question on how do you get back to sleep, when you wake up in the middle of the night? But as I thought about it more, it saddened me because I could see that you never did get a response back from anyone of them, that might have some advice in the matter. There was really only two that really responded with thought, and discussed what this post was really about. And I felt that the others just looked at the cool comic, and didn’t read the actual post. And maybe it’s to much of a hassle for them if they have to go to google translate, I don’t know. Anyways, whatever the case may be, they are missing out on a fun post to read. Now I might be wrong, but it seemed to me like you where brilliantly taking a significant pole to see how many people actually read your post, your so clever HA HA 😂.

My daughter has a hard time keeping herself asleep at night, she’s had this problem her whole life. She listened to “instrumental only” meditation music, which you probably would love Vidas. And she has headphones and earplugs next to her always at night. There’s some fantastic meditation music on the internet. Also I have a friend who is a musician and song writer, and he will wake up in the middle of the night with an idea of writing a song often. He has a notebook, pen and flashlight, next to his bedside always. Once he writes his ideas down he can go back to sleep, knowing he won’t forget them. If you can’t go back to sleep because your thinking to much about your idea, listening to the music and focusing deeply on it, this might help you go back to sleep 😴 💤 ❣️

And I wrote to her in reply:

Thanks again for your thoughtful reply! I wait for your comments with no less excitement than for a post of some favorite author. I wonder how many people you are making feel that way... I bet quite a few here on Steem. What about outside of Steem?

Having a pen, a notebook with a flashlight next to the bed is certainly better than having a phone. I see if I can dismiss these wandering thoughts tonight and perhaps simply stay with my eyes closed.

You are right, most of the commenters surely didn't even bother to read the post. So far none of them gave me a reply to my question which means only one thing: my gut feeling was right and they simply don't care.

It doesn't bother me though. People are too busy to care. And for every behavior there is always a reason, even if we don't know what it is yet.

The reason I'm republishing our correspondence here is that I want to emphasize I wait for her comments with no less excitement than for a post of my favorite authors.

Do you sometimes feel that way about your closest fans? Who read everything what you write, answer every question, leave thoughtful comments every day. They don't have to be that long but they show you that the person cares, that your writing gave him/her something to think about. And in return they give you something to think about.

What if you are such person for somebody? What if your posts and comments are eagerly awaited by someone half across the globe from where you live?

So we have to keep pushing the boundaries. Keep creating, keep engaging with our audience and seek out new fans.

And then maybe we can become someone whom they miss if we wouldn't show up.

Thank you @organduo, it’s so nice to know that you have enjoyed my thoughts and comments, and that they mean something to you! I just want to say, it goes both ways my friend. And I truly appreciate that you took the time to write about my comments to you, and to top it off, you say that you wait for my comments like you would a favorite author. Wow... I sincerely feel very honored. That’s one of the finest compliments anyone has given me, especially coming from someone that I think is really brilliant. You and your wife are two of my most cherished friends I have here on Steemit. And just remember Vidas, we three have known each other for a solid year now. And during that time we have built up a great friendship with each other. I think Pinky and Spiky kind of brought us together... we should thank them HA HA. Anyways we do care about each other, so please don’t feel bad if others don’t care as much, they don’t know you as I do❣️

Yes! Pinky and Spiky are to blame for our friendship... Keep up the good work!

They should return tomorrow. Cornelius and the rest should man up and defend the birds...

It is a welcome thought that someone might enjoy responses from me. It's fun responding and I try to do so. I never write long comments as I was part of an experiment some time ago and the conclusion was that long posts aren't read.

It is an interesting way to learn about life in other countries. I had a Russian lady follower who told me so much about the life of ordinary people there.

I always feel glad when people respond to my posts whether or not they are followers.

Yes, I enjoy he fact that on Steem we get to meet people from different cultures. Helps to see the world to seem less hostile.

Thank you so much for participating the Partiko Delegation Plan Round 1! We really appreciate your support! As part of the delegation benefits, we just gave you a 3.00% upvote! Together, let’s change the world!
