Some thoughts behind the Community Incubation Program and future of Hive

in #communities4 years ago

Hey everyone!

Finally been having some more time to post lately, aside from spending time talking trash in our Discord which has become way too entertaining lately and dangerously procrastinative if that's even a word, it got that red line under it so I'm assuming it isn't but as long as you know what I mean...

I've been quite busy working on a few projects and trying to come up with better solutions to current ones, not necessarily solutions but also improvements that will have the most efficiency on Hive's diverse communities, activity and retention of it along with future onboarding. @dalz will be providing some monthly stats soon to the newest OCD Community Incubation Update and for the one after that we'll be adding activity stats as well which will also be quite important to take a look at as subscriber count along doesn't say much although its nice to see it growing constantly - although not as nice for our outgoing delegations towards the communities 😅, just kidding, we know its not much but it's something to help the communities grow along with curating the curation reports some like to do and share with their moderators and curators and at the same time get their votes in first on content they then pass through us for more rewards and to keep a quality trending. Now if only some bigger accounts wouldn't just waltz in and throw votes on content at 0 rewards to maximize curation it would be even better, but maybe at some point we'll improve on the EIP even more! For now it's a lot better than it used to be pre-EIP.

We recently did an ENGAGE giveaway to some very engaging users and are hoping they'll use them well to encourage others to engage more too. For those of you who don't know what this token does, it basically let's you distribute ENGAGE tokens through a comment command as long as you are holding more than 1001 of them in your Hive-Engine wallet. The idea is that since comment curation is kind of disincentivized lately, not just lower post rewards and curation returns but also since there are so few consumers in general to stack votes on comments to get them past the tax curve. I see it as something that's just a now problem and with a great distribution of Hive and a lot more users we won't have issues getting deserving comments past the tax curve similar to how we do with posts if there's like 50-200 readers and all throwing small votes at them. We just need to get there to that active userbase. Other than that giving deserving comments tokens that can be traded for Hive, @abh12345 also runs a curation trail bot that will give the comments a reward in a diverse variety of tokens and also hive. If you'd like to assist that trail even though it won't really make the tax curve but you want to help engagement, feel free to trail the @misterengagement account through comment voting. Hive.vote probably allows for it.

Getting back to communities, we'll also be giving community leaders and curators in our incubation program ENGAGE so they can raise the incentivize more engagment in their communities and it will be interesting to see the increase with stats after a while provided by @dalz.

Now the next thing we'd want to work on to get more people to use said communities and encourage users from the communities and leaders is to incentivize onboarding. We have a few ideas already planned out but a lot of it also relies on the finalizement of @poshtoken which currently is close to being ready and just a couple more finetuning required. Many have been asking me what is up with poshtoken and a tl;dr is that more important matters came up that would serve Hive well and the devs focused on that for now which I had nothing against but would be great to get it done some time soon so we can continue building on top of it and combine a lot of incentives together.

To explain a little of what I'm thinking/planning you might need a quick "what is poshtoken" or more importantly what is it meant to accomplish.

For now poshtoken is just a centralized point system which

  1. scans Twitter for tweets with #/$hive and links to hive.blog, peakd, 3speak and a few other front-ends
  2. counts likes, comments and retweets to give users points depending on them
  3. distributes 100 tokens daily to everyone participating as long as they have registered, unregistered twitter accounts have their tokens burned

So all you need to know to get going is basically to check out @poshtoken, there's a reblog there from my account explaining how to easily register (comment under the @poshtoken account your registration), the registration works and distribution works, only thing that doesn't work right now is the daily statistic posts which were meant to reward the dev for his work since poshtoken has no ninjamine/dev/creator fund to make it as fair as possible thus we'll be relying on the rewardpool to fund work towards it. We originally wanted to make a proposal but for now it seemed that it wasn't that expensive to be worth the time and effort to write a proposal and get it shared with the stakeholders.

Some things that aren't obvious at first read about poshtoken is that it will incentivize anyone to share hive links onto Twitter, whether you're an author or not, you'll be able to earn tokens from sharing other people's work as well. This could mean that anyone from Twitter who isn't even on Hive, could create a Hive account, start sharing their favorite posts onto Twitter and earn poshtokens for it. At the same time @peakd recently added referral links for sharing any post which means that someone who's really good at networking and has a lot of traffic/eyes on their Twitter could potentially earn both poshtokens (value to be decided once a real token is created and airdropped) and referral rewards from new users signing up through their link, posting, getting curated and giving the referrer a beneficiary cut.

A lot of pieces of the puzzle are coming together so I hope everyone is as excited about the future of Hive as I am. Along with the new hardfork that will optimize the chain in so many ways I didn't even think were possible, the sky will be the limit of what we'll be able to do here. Once things start rolling Hive has a tendency to compound not just in how stake is earned but also in FOMO and attention and it's going to feel good to not be one of the chains that'll run into scaling issues on the next bull run like so many are having right now before the run has even properly started if not them causing it to stifle.

Okay, this post is probably already long enough. For ending words I'm encouraging community leaders to create their own Twitter accounts the same way OnChainArt and a few others have where they can share daily great posts and grow a following. It'll make it a lot easier to utilize all these incentives better later on if you're already starting out with a base following and of course make sure to also use other tags relevant to your community and the posts you're sharing, just tagging #hive will get you @poshtokens but not many content creators outside of Hive and not many referrals or traffic neither.

Hope ya'll are as excited as I am, make sure to free up some liquid Hive cause you never know when a pump is around the corner if you wanna speculate on some trading to get yourself more Hive. The inflation is pretty constant and steady at this point so I'm assuming many will be looking at other ways to grow their stake in the near future and if anything providing the exchanges with more liquidity is not a bad thing.

It's easy to think it's slow, but honestly, the community is ROCKETING along! I love @poshbot and it's also great for other Hive readers to see it there on the post, nudging people to get over to twitter.

@HiveLift is seeing new people every day curiously wandering over and starting to share more excellent content.

I love flinging out thos ENGAGE tokens - makes me feel like Ms Christmas. 🤣

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

feel free to trail the @misterengagement account through comment voting. Hive.vote probably allows for it.

That's not working. Do you know any other options?

Hmmm, ooops! 🤣

Edit.
Same on downvotecontrol, fuck the blockchain police

Thanks for trailing misterengagement - I think?

I'm not sure if it is a good curation option for rewards but is appreciated.

I actually made a facebook and Twitter account for the Motherhood Community and was doing the work manually cause i think sharing the post for other mommy bloggers to see is a good way to onboard them.

Until the lovely Julia shared with me her alien ways of using https://ifttt.com/ to shared the content from the community into twitter and facebook automatically 😍 and has save me a lot of work!

I actually made a post on how I set it up if someone needs the info on the community official account here

Know that FB lowers reach even more when automation tools are used. As if the low visibility when not sponsoring posts wasn't bad enough yet. But it works well when you post to groups since visibility/reach is less of an issue there. As long as the group grows.

IFTTT, Zapier, Buffer they're totally worth their freemium. Sadly enough there’s no Hive integrations on Zapier yet.

I created a group for the community as well i just need to find a way to make the page post there 😂 caise i have not time to do it all on my own and i hate fb but yes i feel we should focus on fb not just twitter especially for topics like this a lot of moms use more fb than twitter so it makes sence to hunt them there.

Photography should do it on instagram and so on...

So that’s where all those single moms are hiding?! Will I have to start using FB again? 👀

Ooh so you are looking for being a stepdad 🤔 i get it now

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Awesome, our next goal for poshtoken will be to also add Facebook to it if the API's allow us. :)

We'll be taking a look at your community soon for consideration!

I'm not yet register my Twitter account because in the past I just read register is closed.

Happy to see this news :)

A lot of pieces of the puzzle are coming together.

We got this man.

Thanks for the update. I'm curious about the posh bot and my thought is that one wouldn't need to manually drop the posh link as a comment on hive posts in order to earn posh token. Is this so or I'm getting it wrong?

Dropping a link in the comments was never a requirement for @poshtoken, that was just so we could easier find your post for a chance at extra curation.

Oh, that's nice then. I've always thought it's a requirement.

Well explained article about Hive and how to succeed through good content sharing it on social medias specially on Twitter to get good traffic.

Every day I see more initiatives, to encourage users to make comments and promote the platform, all the initiatives are valid and the effort they make is appreciated, the platform looks more active and that is an indicator that much activity is being generated for the benefit of the collective. Thank you for the information that you have an excellent week !

I would like to register this Twitter account as my own:

https://twitter.com/markku_jantunen

Please check the reblogged post of mine on @poshtoken, the first suggestion on how to register is easiest but note that you have to register under a @poshtoken post. The bot will reply if successful.

mine is working without registering!😃

Hmm, if you don't register it will send your tokens to @null (basically burn them) even though they aren't really tokens yet and it's not actually sending them to that account - just a figure of speech I guess. So yeah, you should definitely register. xD

oh - I did not know this
thank you

also, is poshbot different than poshtoken?

Yeah, poshbot just notifies people when their post gets shared.

ok - so they are different!
Thanks
