The amazing thing is that Steem through its SMT will take the fight to EOS and Ethereum-which is an amazing thing because we will have many alternative technologies to explore and yes , competition leads to more innovation and more choice for consumers.
There are many scam / fake projects in the crypto space, so being a member of one of the best blockchain technology and having the ability to earn it daily is a good reason for celebration. Moreover, there are no perfect technology out there and we have seen some limitations in steem ecosystem , however the upcoming SMT and HFork 20 will positively change the playing field for all of us (if we are ready to join the vibe). Moreover, if you are smart and have a bit understanding of destructive technologies, you will know that steem is currently undervalued and its value will rise soon especially after the successful implementation of SMT and HFork 20-here are some few points:
More integration: The current reorganizing and implementation of asset data types (In SMT) will make it possible for steem blockchain to evolve and start supporting as many assets as possible (not only 3: steem, sbd and steem power) while maintaining backward compatibility-thus making life easier for entrepreneur’s .
Moreover, according to Ned Scott :
This will provide the best possible UX, while minimizing the engineering costs required to integrate an SMT into existing applications. In other words, entrepreneurs won’t need to take on as much technical debt in order to use blockchain and cryptocurrency technology through the adoption of an SMT.
Automated market makers (AMM): This option will surely take the fight to Ethereum and EOS and thus open the flood gates for many people to use steem blockchain through SMT tokens.
Moreover,
AMMs will enable an entrepreneur launching an SMT to create instant liquidity for their token so that people can immediately begin buying and selling it while also establishing a baseline price level for that token. Leveraging the AMM is an optional feature for an SMT, but those SMTs that do use the AMM will be able to economically bootstrap themselves with a turn-key solution for providing bi-directional liquidity in the on-chain market
Bright Future: I can go on the whole day about the ingenuity of steem blockchain however to summarize my thoughts, it is clear that steem is currently undervalued and thus we all have the opportunity to buy steem ( and power up , if you have the money) or earn it through great posts. Importantly, I am sure that steem price will moon before the end of this year due to its bright future.

As much as I would LOVE to believe this was possible, that seems blindly optimistic to me.
I could see $50 maybe as a cap, but $100 is completely absurd, especially if we're only trading between $3 and $4 as of late.
I'd be willing to bet we'd realistically be maybe at about $20 by the end of 2018.
Even 20USD at the end of this year will be a great News for all of us isn´t it?

There's so many variables, I hate guessing prices. If the overall market goes up, Steem looks like it could be one of the best to invest in. If 2018 is going to be a difficult year, Steem looks like one of the more solid coins and we can all carry on earning more by posting good content.
Competition is healthy for the industry and as you rightfully indicated, it will provide more options for us and increase innovation. I am positive about steem blockchain....thanks for sharing.

Why?
A lot of growth potential to spread the model. Move from a platform to a network to a system of networks. Could get interesting from many perspectives.
It all depends on speed of implementation. You can see that very clearly when you look at nr1 on coinmarketcap. Although the technology behind bitcoin is outdated against many new developed altcoins they are still firmly on nr 1.
If we want to beat EOS and others as the main blockchain social network then we have to be the first to successfully release SMT's.

When SMTs were first tossed around at the end of 2017 many thought of it as another content driver. I myself was looking forward to using it as a device for driving interaction on other content platforms. But your article has changed my mind since it is being portended to be another option of value from EOS.

I think that most of the users of the platform are still not entirely clear about the opportunities offered by Steemit. As you say there is always a chance to grow and be a new entrepreneur, but as everything takes patience and effort to get to this.

I am pretty sure that SMT will become the best alternative to Ethereum, this platform is way too different than others, and the approach is more social.. we as human beings like to interact with other people and the proof of that is social media, having SMT, having great platforms such as dlive, dsound, dtube is the greatest way to support art and discover new talent.

SMTs are extremely exciting. When I first heard about them my mind was blown. I do think that SMTs could be the thing to compete with EOS and their Steemit competition. We do have a head start too over here. The thing I am most excited for though is not SMTs but the Communities on here being implemented which I think is super important for the future success of Steemit, I really hope they are implemented soon!

Thanks for the post! I am really a small fish. I have just purchased additional 100 steem to power up. When I put up my recent post, the upvote was really fast and I had a nice amount of upvote within 24 hours. I am not fully sure it is due to my purchase of steem or my quality article but you are right to say it is a good time to buy steem since price has dropped and steem seems to be on the rise at the point of this comment that I am making!

If smart media tokens fullfill their promise then there is a chance that they might succeed but i don't think they will be an ethereum killer.
As far as eos is concerned i think it has been way too long in development.
