I love paper lanterns and these two fit the bill for some quick, no fuss holiday decorating.
I really no longer do anything special on Halloween, but I still like to to put a thing or two around, just for myself, just for the fun of it.
I had these two fun paper lanterns from last year that I had only used inside. They puff out to be a substantial size piece of decor, but when done, the wire comes out and they squash flat, easy peasey, no need for much storage space.
What's not to love about that?
I worked half a day already, but I took a break mid morning. I had already hung out the candy corn lantern, but did not have the jack-o-lantern one outside. I decided to add it and I thought it looked fun.
When I got off at noon, the pumpkin was gone ! Blown off it's hook and nowhere to be found ! ha ha ....I have no idea which way it went, so I took out another one, they came in packs of 3 I think and just put another one up ! This time I crimped the wire on the hook a little bit. Maybe this one will last more than a couple hours (or 10 minutes, I don't know how long it stayed up the first time).
I can't help but think back on how much fun we had growing up, putting on costumes, going from door-to-door in our neighborhood gathering candy from our neighbors. We always had a blast, till we kind of aged out.
I don't have any special plans and that is ok with me. Where I live now, the neighbors are far apart and I don't know anyone with children, so I don't do the trick-or-treat thing now. I don't prepare and no one comes to the door !
Too sad that many folks feel it is not safe to do that these days. People don't know their neighbors like they use too and it is possible it would not be safe.
Times change, sometimes for the better...... sometimes not.
Hope everyone has a safe day.
Luv ya ! Mean it !

I love that you still put some decorations out! Some might say... how wonderful to have all that space but human connection is important too. At least you were able to enjoy the lanterns :-) My hubby and I took the kids out to trick or treat near their high school with their friends. We waited in the car in a local supermarket carpark for them. It would be too embarrassing to have a parent on the road with them, even following at a distance 😂 They are 11 and 13! My hubby was just commenting this evening on this same theme of feeling safe at night and how wonderful it was to see so many kids out on the streets without a care in the world, feeling safe because it was Halloween. He was saying that it's sad that the world has become so untrusting (although for good reason) and we wished we could see more of these safe freedoms emerge for our kids. A lovely post, Jacey. Happy Halloween 🥰🎃👻
Thank you.
After all these years, I am still in touch with my inner child and I love seeing all the decorations, inside and out. It adds some fun happiness to my life.
It's so nice that you took your children to a good place and were able to let them enjoy the fun with their friends. I'm sure it has created memories they will hold all their lives.
THank you for stopping over !
and....
Happy Halloween !
Some pretty paper lantern, and with its bright and lively color, it makes the house looks more cool. We never experienced decorating our home like those durint halloweens, I mean we don't really celebrate it. Reading the fun you experience during your childhood, I just think, I missed a lot of fun times during those times.
When I was growing up, not that many people decorated a lot outside, but still dressed up and went out to "frighten" the neighbors into giving us candy. ha ha.... or so we thought. Supposedly LONG before my time, if you didn't treat the goblins that came to your door, they might do some sort of trick on you.
We never did tricks on people and we weren't scary at all !
Some people really decorate a lot these days, in a way that they did not when I was young. It's pretty neat to see, but I've never been tempted to go that far. Christmas on the other hand, is a different story on decorations.
Thanks for stopping over !
I hope it was the wind and not a person that made off with the pumpkin!
Well.... it was hanging on a hook and blowing in the breeze .... and it is round. I didn't realize quite how breezy it was out when I put it out there. It it blew off and didn't land on the porch, but the yard, it would have been real easy for it to blow around since it is light.
If my Uncle by any chance, found it too far away from the porch, he may have picked it up now knowing it was mine. It also could be way over in a neighbor's yard. When I didn't see it below the porch or across the front or down the side of the house, I just figured it blew away pretty far and it was easier to hang another out than go hunt it !
Thanks for stopping over !
I love your paper lanterns! I didn't put out any decorations at all this year. The few neighbors that I do have are all elderly and don't have any children, and I don't have any trick or treaters that come to my door. I loved Halloween when I lived in town and there were lots of kids coming trick or treating. Now it's just another day
I understand. I used to do Halloween and trick or treaters BIG !.... when I was younger and lived in neighborhoods full of children. My husband and I and some of our friends did a haunted yard several years and people came and walked through it for free and then got some candy too ! Like most things in life, there is a season and it seems that season in my life is in the past. I usually have windsocks or etc hanging out front and I can see anything I hang there through my front windows, so I suppose it's just as much for me as anyone. It only took a moment to hang them out and I have enjoyed them. I like the nearly-no-effort decorating like that. :)
I have some wonderful Halloween memories also. The seasons of our lives do change, don't they.
They sure do ! :)
