My Mom turned 88 on Saturday ! She's a very spry 88 and can run circles around me backwards any day of the week. Of course that meant we had to throw a party !
Can't have a party without some birthday napkins and colorful eating utensils.
A little fun decor here and there to make it look festive.
No party is complete without a long desert bar. Start here first, because when you finish eating the normal food, you are going to be too full for sweets. LOL !!!!
What is it "they" say?? Life is uncertain, eat dessert first !
My niece made this fun confetti cake. They had no idea how many would show up and heaven forbid we run out of dessert. Even though it was just my family, Mom, her kids, their kids ... and THEIR kids were invited it can still be a crowd. Something we haven't done a lot of since covid.
My sister make a pound cake in a fun bundt pan. There were sugared strawberries and homemade whipped cream to go over it, but I somehow didn't get a photo of those. Use your imagination here a little... ok?
...and a fresh apple cake.
My grown niece Miranda wanted to take the helm of what we would have to eat at the party. The party was mid afternoon, not really lunch or supper. She called it a pecking platter because she knew my Mom likes to go through and take a bite of this and then a bite of that. I called it a Grazing Bar ! LOL It started with an amazing assortment of breads. You could make a sandwich if you wanted, but it was more meant to be smaller (not too small) pieces of multiple kinds of bread with your choice of toppings and foods.
I LOVE bread, but with diabetes, I try not to have a lot of it. Of course, self permission granted for parties. There were about 6 different loaves and one un-honorable mention of some blueberry cornbread (OH YUK !)....ha ha
Indulge me though, while I post too many photos of bread. I'll just let you gaze on some for your visual enjoyment
and
and...
and........
I love them all but my personal favorite for the day was this Rosemary Parmesan.... OH to the yummy yummy
Did you want a piece of fun cheese on yours?
...or maybe some jams or preserves.... or some bread dip with spices in good olive oil?
A few good nuts on the side? Yes Please....
How about a spread? .. .chicken salad, veggie spread, pimento cheese.... spinich dip?... or some homemade egg salad? How do you make up your mind ???
A little close up of two. Those fun speckled bowls belong to my niece. She's a bit artsy like her aunt.
There was also some nice fruit....
...and some veggies, crackers, pickles and dips for the veggies.
Then there was the birthday carousel fail.... ha ha.... It was supposed to come open like a lotus flower kind of thing and there were candles on it that would turn while the birthday song played, but.... it didn't open on time and the fire got bigger and stayed hot too long, so when someone finally got it to open, the petals were melted together and it slowly turned while dropping melted plastic and wax on the apple cake..... everyone was just watching and laughing ! ...till I said with authority... BLOW IT OUT ! ...and the two closest to it did. It was funny since we didn't burn the house down.
We had great fun ! Believe me when I tell you though, all of you could have come and ate with us and there would have STILL been leftovers !
I didn't bring a lot home with me, but just a couple of pieces of this and that, but I enjoyed those fine cheeses so much that I included several different kinds with my grocery order that was delivered to me today. It makes me want to make a small "Pecking Platter" for supper every night... on a MUCH smaller scale of course...and without bread (wah).
Hope you are all doing well and that your hearts are happy.
Love you !
Jacey
Happy birthday mom! What a feast! I hope someone throws me a massive eat fest party when I turn 88! 😄
ha ha.... I want my feast now! I don't think I'll make it to 88 !
Any excuse for good food is fine by me.
That was some great eating birthday. Haven't seen so much great looking homemade food. Your mother has a great family.
Wasn't that a crazy amount of food ?? I couldn't even hold all I would have liked to have had a taste of !
We certainly do have a wonderful family.
When family members get together you can count on food being there...🤣
That's for sure !
Mmmm grazing, this is what I like to do too. Happy Birthday to your mum, this looks like a party to remember. I'd try a little bit of everything especially all the varied cheese.

I definitely had to taste all the cheeses. Spurred by that, my frig has multiple blocks of cheese in it now. LOL.. I had a grocery delivery today. I had broken off a piece of each of the cheeses from the party, not large really, but since then I have taken them out a time or two and had a pinch and I have enjoyed it.
Grazing.... such a happy word ! 😄
A very happy birthday to you mum!! What a spread, it's quite a magnificent feast and all the bread too! Will have to give rosemary and parmesan bread a try, it's a nice sounding combo?
Thanks !
I like rosemary a lot ! ....add it to some bread with some cheese mixed in? I guess it truly depends on what types of things you like, but I thought it was unique and delish !
Of course the asiago sour dough was a running second. I like asiago anything.
You know I dont think I have tried Asiago. Will have to look in my local Italian deli!
Happy Birthday to your mum! Looks like an awesome party :)
Thank you !
.... and it sure was !
Now that is a par-tee! I would need to be on the insulin drip IV after hitting that like of breads and desserts! Y'all got more food than a Golden Corral buffet!
Wow your mom looks just simply amazing! Many Happy Returns of the Day!
She DOES look amazing !
It really WAS a par-TAY ! ... and you are right about the insulin drip...LOL.... definitely not a menu to be enjoyed very often.
What a grand party!!!
Blueberry cornbread? I haven't had that one yet!
WOW, it was a spread.
Happy Birthday to your Mom, @jacey.boldart !
I didn't taste it ! LOL I love cornbread, but blueberries are one of the few things I don't like, so I wasn't tempted, but even those in my family that love blueberries, thought it was kind of bad.
It certainly WAS a spread !
Don't you wish you did?
I wonder how it tasted!
But what a combination, hahaha!

NO !!! I don't do blueberries in anything, so even if blueberry lovers loved it, I wouldn't. GROSS !
Yuck
Oh thank you ! @ewkaw & @qurator That was so kind of you.
My pleasure :)
Happy Birthday to your mom!! She looks amazing! Her warm smile and her sparkly eyes tell the tale of a woman many stories to tell.
I cannot believe your family baked/cooked/made all those delicious breads and cakes! I wouldnt' know where to begin and I probably would never want to end. Cheese, nuts, spreads? Oh, my!!! Honestly, you had me from the first sampling.
I love to top it off with fruit, cut up nicely is a huge bonus. You people know how to party proper! The spread goes on forever! I love it~!! I love all of the breads I see! The Rosemary I have sided with the Rosemary Jalepeno, a throwback from San An... but, I am not sure if I have ever had it with the parmesan. Sounds pretty yummy! Asiago goes with all and I think I am just addicted to bread. A meal all in itself!
Happy Birthday once again to Mom! This was such a heartwarming and yummy post.
I'd like to take credit for our family and the bread, but alas, all the different loaves were bought ! It was quite a feast for sure. We may have been making up for lost time and good eats from all the parties we've missed due to covid. Way to catch up...right ?
She DOES look amazing, that is for sure. Of course, doesn't Mom always look amazing no matter whose Mom she is. Somehow, even though you know, when you look at her, the change has been so gradual that you hardly think to notice it really.
You know what? Some of the styisan breads are so good. Nobody notices I'm sure. That has become a standard fallback for many households. Plus, it made it a no fuss/have fun party! I love making my own bread, but I like Wegmans, my bakery and the local Harris Teeter! Their bread is delicious!
Moms always look good, but your mom has aged very well! You got good genes!! Woo hoo! I get what you are saying about it happens so slowly, you forget to notice.
How about that Hive @ $0.46!!
Hive ?? I know ! Don't that suck ???
Sorry, anything less just wouldn't convey what I truly think about it. LOL !!!
Well, hello!! It does suck!
Le sigh.
It just went up to $0.495, but don't quit your day job quite yet.
