As a newcomer to Steemit I have to ask - if this community keeps growing what happens if a big media company (or any rich companies or guys you don't like) show up and load up on a few million dollars worth of Steempower and start throwing their weight around? I mean that's possible right - and they could really just upvote the crap out of useless commercial or crappy fake and alternative fact content.
Yes we have no end of useless content, plagiarism and shameless self-promotion and pyramid scheme. But most of that is easily downvoted if necessary because it's all minnows.
Or am I completely mistaken about how this whole thing works (I'll be honest, I started reading the FAQ but it's long and can get pretty complicated - reading it again is on my todo list albeit not to far above "World Peace").
We have businesses that are doing that now, just look at some of the posts on the trending pages. I wrote a post about that a while back and suggested business type accounts for that particular reason. Advertising and business can be good for Steemit, but it has to be done with care.
