I think it is overwhelming for people used to twitter, facebook, reddit etc. When you first start what is trending or filling your feed is not necessarily tailored to your interests but is does not take huge effort to start following and get a better experience. It will be interesting to see if Steemit does develop a wider base of users. Right now it looks like the demographic is content creators who also enjoy consumption. I wonder if over time it will become more a destination with more casual users browsing content but not necessarily blogging or creating stuff themselves

Great points @redskylullaby. Steemit really isn't comparable to other social media sites where people can just post casually. There really is a different vibe and expectation around community involvement here.
It will certainly be interesting to see how the platform evolves and changes over time.
