Memon word comes from Mu'min (مؤمن, “believer” in Arabic) and late after evolved to present name Memon.Generally Memons are Sunni Muslims they use to follow the Hanafi Islamic legal system (Fiqh)
Previously they used Sindhi language to communicate, because of their migration to the nearby regions Kutch and Khatiwar and their excessive use of the Gujrati language in their businesses, their language changed into a dialect called Memoni , is unwritten. Until 1970’s Memon businesses kept their records and business papers in Gujrati.
Toward the ending of 20th century Memoni further went some changes in Pakistan and elsewhere because of Urdu language as Urdu has been widely used as a Islamic language by the Muslims in the Indian subcontinent and eventually English is used as a replacement of gujrati.
Memons in Bangladesh and other countries use to speak memoni language at home and among themselves. They also knows and uses the language for education and business purpose of the country they are residing and holding the nationality, as there is no specific written form of memon language.
