Gender Equality - Case study #1

in #community7 years ago (edited)

There is a saying that goes thus "what a man can do, a woman can do better".
This has caused a lot of disparity in the male folk. Do you believe in gender equality?

**What Is Gender Equality? **

This is simply when access to rights/ opportunities is unaffected by gender.

FROM THE BABIES
When talking about the babies, in this content am referring to the age range of 8-12. These set adapt to whatever the society teaches and follows suit. The environment a child grows up to see his/her self affects the communication of that child.
There will be a difference in the thoughts and points of view of a child who grew up in a society or home where it is believed that a woman has no worth, she should be limited to the kitchen, she has no say in the affairs of her home and community.

And a child who grows up to see a woman being respected and given the opportunity to air out her opinions in her home and her society, a woman who is given educational rights and is treated as important in the society.

A young couple in my neighborhood has 3 little boys of ages 11years, 9years and 7years. And the kids misbehave and trouble the house alot. As boys, they always want to explore everything in the house and by so doing, their mum keeps arranging the house in minutes. As the only lady in the mist of 4 guys (her husband and her 3 boys). It wasn't easy for her as chores got to much to handle.

Here comes the interesting part of the story, one Saturday morning after the usual house sanitation, she went to prepare breakfast for the family. At this time the boys were up already and playing in their parlour when she suddenly heard a loud crash on the floor which followed by a deep silent.
She ran in to check what it was, Lo and behold the flat screen TV was smashed face down on the floor. She asked the eldest what happened and he said they were playing. She gave each of them 6 strokes for the act, and 3 to the smallest of the boys who already started crying after the 1st stroke of Cain landed on his hands.
While she was still trying to fix up their mess, Jhon being the second boy went to his brother and said "are you crying for a woman?,clean your eyes and stop crying". These words from a 9years old boy shocked their mum and she got scared of her own children.

This shows the rate at which the society as influenced the minds of children with the saying that "women are meant for the kitchen" and that a they should not be treated respectfully.

A girl child growing up in a society where there is no believe giving a female child the opportunity to education and strives on her own to educate herself, will find it difficult to respect the male folk as she grows up. Her expectations would be that anyone from the opposite sex she meets should be financially and academically higher than she is. And thus she becomes very selective of the kind of guys she even hangs out with, not minding if others had the financial backup to be in school.

THE YOUNG ADULTS
This set have actually grown to have an understanding of what the society believes and the male folk in this age range start taking advantage of that.
Here the girl child is left to fight for her rights, among peers, in social gatherings, in the classrooms, and even in religious gatherings.
She finds herself struggling to uphold her worth and most times, it leads to loss of self confidence, it leads to self pity, depression and regrets.

THE ADULTS
Most men tend to subject the female folk to hard labour, they have become irresponsible in their obligations as husbands and fathers in that they leave the responsibility of taking care of the home, financially, morally and otherwise to the women. The women tend to bear all the financial burdens of the home while the men sit aside doing nothing.

The woman provides for herself, and the home with the man making no efforts towards seeing to his responsibilities as the "head".
This has lead to marital breakup and even early demise of the women involved. They tend to take on more burdens than they can carry and the marriage becomes a regret.

In The Educational Sector
The male folk believe that they own it all. But the women are making waves in education. A female child when given the opportunity to education utilises it more than a male child.

In Finance management
Though the female have lots of cosmetic needs, they still tend to manage finances well and always keep the home standing.
They don't depend on one source of income, they spread their tentacles to make ends meet.

Other sectors
That woman are doing better and improving on a daily basis where ever they find themselves in the society doesn't mean there's gender equality, it means we can do more than being restricted to the kitchen.

To stop the thoughts of gender equality in the minds and hearts of the women, the men have to start working up to expectations. They have to know their responsibilities in their homes, offices and social environment and keep to it. Being a weakling when it comes to dispensing your responsibility as a man the head of the house makes the women to call in for gender equality

Saying no to the education of a female child makes the call to gender equality.
Everyone deserves a right to education.
Let our basic Human Rights be treated with respect irrespective of the gender, tradition or culture.
Everyone deserves a better treatment.
Everyone deserves to be treated with love.
Everyone deserves to be cared for.
