interesting, thx for the inside!
This is vey good
I've got a problem with the naming conventions (1,2,3) for community types (open, closed, private). It creates a conflict where changes in these types will result in the creation of a new community/account altogether.
For example: if you'd like to change your open community to closed after creation, you will need to create a new one, even if it has thousands of active subscribers.
If there is no other way for whatever reason (instead of e.g. using the account metadata), then I could accept it, however, it is a nuisance.
Would be interested to hear some thoughts on this from @roadscape.
@therealwolf / @wehmoen - membership structure is a fundamental property of a community, switching between different types at will creates a lot of backend and frontend edge cases. Trying to keep the protocol as simple as possible, particularly for first version. Let's collect data first :)
Both options should be possible.
Integrating into "setProps" will need a little more logic to implement, since the op is also available to mods. It'll be a matter of adding a check for permissions, but it's not complicated.
A custom JSON op like "setType" would need even less changes to current logic to implement.
My thoughts were that maybe it's more an issue of making a community "immutable" in that current members who like it the way it is still get to keep it, while a new one can always be created for a new purpose.
WOW cannot wait to create the #challengedac community! So it will just be like named #hive00001 or whatever number we are assigned? and we can choose whatever name we want and those wont be unique? So i don't have to worry about name squatters taking it right? So anyone can have a "Bitcoin" community and no one can name squat? Seems like this is an elegant solution, and the screenshots remind me of @steempeak
Thanks for the update, very exciting for steem.
We've been working on our interface recently
Yeah i am excited!
Im hoping and expecting steempeak will allow communities and Tribes to integrate nicely right? :D I feel steempeak can be the grand unifier.
I was going to ask @steempleb @wehmoen about if we can do NSFW posts as the "private" posts, im thinking of a responsible NSFW community where all NSFW content must be private and only visible to approved members who undergo age verification (one of the many ways i was thinking of was have codes issued at bars and 7/11s where they do the ID check lol :D ) But i have other community based age verification, including proof of social media posts and images from the past lol, i have posts from before 18 years ago, proving i must be over 18 and was already using internet, :D i know there's fun ways to think of age verification with KYC
Great post @wehmoen, useful information for anyone hoping to make a community.
The problems with Steemit is that there are some whales which are manipulating the system because of their massive amount of Steem power. People with large amount of Steem power are making huge amount of money on downvoting. A few people are manipulating the Steem platform including banning people and censoring them by the use of downvoting automatically, they just add the person account and its immediately downvoted when the person upload the article. Also when you try to withdraw your Steem power it takes forever to cash it out, so I caution everyone to be very carefull and do your own research and not to listen to people that are tied in with Steemit. If you wish to invest in Steem do it on an Exchange instead. Also the price of Steem is far too much over value as compare with real Blockchain businesses. My prediction on the Steem is that it will nose dive even further to about 0.001
So if you can not code, what are the options of setting up a community?

@paulag I know nothing about coding and have created two Communities . Feathered Friends and Shadow Hunters. It was easy and the site is quite intuitive.
really, already, how hot are you. So is it ready for anyone to set up a community because I am so eagerly waiting
I felt honored to be invited into the beta site! It has been really interesting to see it coming together. I can't wait for it to go live!
that's soooooooooooo exciting. You will have to be my go-to person when it goes live, expect incoming questions
I think if you have questions it will mean they did it wrong! It should all be 'piece of cake' simple!
well when you put it that way, my expectations have been set high.
fantastic news, music to my ears
I'm sorry, I can't resist... learn to code!
You know I'm only joking (and I got a PhD for coding in C++ but there's no way I'll be using this before it has a nice web interface!).
ah man, If I didn't work full time, and be a full-time mum at the same time, then I could find the time. I would love to learn to code
