HISTORICAL ANTECEDENT
Its interesting to note hat computering can be traced back over 2000years ago when abacus was used in china . Abacus can be firmly said to be precursor of the modern day digital computers.
Abacus: is an instrument introduce in Europe, china, japan and India as far back as 500b to replace the old method of counting , Before Abacus come on board , man used fingers ,toes ,stick, pebbles, for counting Then ,permanent record of he results of counting were usually kept by putting permanent marks on the ground, wall , animal skin, bones,using charcoal, chalk and possibly plant juice as writing materials.
The abacus qualifies as a digital instrument because it uses beads as counter to calculate in discrete form.
The pascal adding machine was later invented by blasie pascal(1623-1662) in 1642. It was publicly presented in 1645. After Pascal ,comes Babbage analytic machine designee by CHARLES Babbage ( 1792-1871) later ,punched card machine were invented by Herman Holerith (1860-1929) Holerith later founded a company which subsequently, merged with two other companies to form computing , tabulating ,recording company .After Babbage ,came Von Nueman Machine ,which has been largely agreed upon to be offshoot of the present day computer . A paper write by Von Nueman (1903-1957) with Arthur. W.Brks and Herman H .Goldstine in 1946,Has been regarded as the most influential paper in the history of computer science. The paper title The ,Preliminary discussion of logical design or an electronic computing instrument", The paper contains revolutionary ideals on which the present day computer are based. Soon afterward , a lot of computer projects sprang up,first in the university, and later in the industries, culminating.
