3D Pandora's Key 7 review : 2000 games inside!

in #computing6 years ago (edited)

Today I present you a new friend: the 3D Pandora's Key 7, a home arcade controller, clone of the Pandora's box. It will come with me on the future Youtube channel. Let's go around.

Pandora's Key 7

Description of the 3D Pandora's Key 7

The 3D Pandora's Key 7 comes in a simple cardboard box without illustration, so I wondered what was this package. Yet arrived very quickly (about ten days), it was completely out of my head!

The set is perfectly held in place with foams, and the sticks are protected with a plastic film. The packaging is not very glamorous, but it is effective, and that's what counts.

The 3D Pandora's Key 7 comes with a USB cable, two spare buttons, an HDMI cable, a VGA cable and a parallel cable that serves to connect the two sticks. Let's not forget the power supply, to the European standard.

The 3D Pandora's Key 7 comes in the form of two separate control blocks, unlike the classic Pandora's box which are monobloc. The cases are plastic, where the Pandora's Box are, if my memory serves, metal. The whole is quite light. The buttons do not look too fragile, if necessary I have stock spare parts!

The connections are located on the left case. There is an HDMI port, a VGA, two USB, a volume control wheel, a button to access settings, a 3.5mm jack audio output and the power connector. Finally, on the side of each housing we find the parallel connector to connect the two sticks together. It would have been nice to put this connector in the back, by the way!

Let's plug it!

Once connected, we start the machine. We hear a slight blast fan, rather quiet anyway, and introductory animation, rather long, but rhythmic, appears on the screen, before giving way to the user interface. This one is rather simplistic, and consists of 3 lists: 3D, 2D, and latest. The first one displays 10 recent games, with 3D, such as Tekken 6. The second list more than 2000 classic games, major titles such as Puzzle Bobble, Altered Beast, Shinobi, the 19xx series, a lot of Street Fighter, etc. . Finally, the last list shows the last games played.

The interface is quite clear, but it still lacks a search engine, the games are not always organized in alphabetical order. However, in the settings, we will be able to place our favorite games at the top of the list. Personally, I will opt for a method of choice a little more fun: randomly!

At the games level, we note a smoothing, just like the XPro console that I tested previously, but still less pronounced. The image is still fluid, the games are not stretched, it's a pleasure to play.

USB ports

There is two USB ports on the main box. These have two functions: the first allows you to connect two additional USB controllers to play up to 4 players on some games. A section in the parameters allows you to adjust the joystick mapping. The second allows you to connect the 3D Pandora's Key 7 to a PC to use the set as a USB controller. Pretty cool ! Note that I have not yet had the opportunity to test these features.

My verdict

This console is pretty well damn despite the lack of search engine, and will perfectly complement my XPro console that lists me already 800 titles of home console. Here is more than 2000 titles (2177 exactly) of arcade titles that I have access, and that I will present soon in my Youtube / Twitch channel that will take place soon.

Useful review, thank you. How does it perform in terms of input lag?

Didn't notice any. But I don't have a hawkeye... ;-)
