There are few experiences like firing your first gun. The empowerment one receives when you're able to provide your own protection is something no one should ever discount.
You don't need a license to carry it as long as you keep it exposed. If you carry it concealed then in my state you have to have a CCDW (Conceal Carry Deadly Weapon) license.
