On Wednesday and Thursday last week, the pioneering edition of the Africa blockchain conference was held. It hosted participants and speakers from different parts of the world And from different industries/sectors.
The event was attended by the president of Uganda, and the former president of Mauritius. The governor of the Central Bank of Uganda was also there alongside the minister of ict.
I work with a media startup in Nigeria which produces only blockchain and cryptocurrency content, and focuses on blockchain start ups in Africa. We were live at the event.
The President of Uganda boldly supported blockchain technology and the application of its use cases in solving the various problems faced by the government of Uganda,in it's various sectors. His view to the application of blockchain technology was in contrast to that of the governor of the Central Bank of Uganda who was strongly against the technology, especially the use of cryptocurrencies.
The event was attended by the CEO of binance, Changpeng Zhao and other important people in the space.
There were important speeches and panelist discussions on the use of blockchain technology in commerce, agriculture, health care (records and the supply of genuine drugs), identity management, asset verification and elections.
There were a lot of side attractions like an exhibition (which showcased blockchain start ups) and a pitch competition(in which different ideas where presented).
In conclusion, the two day event was absolutely amazing. And I am definitely grateful for the opportunity to have been there to learn and meet a lot of people from different parts of the world.
