I think the term, 'mind control', is used too liberally and doesn't apply to all of these examples. I tend to think of it more in terms of more targeted populations, specific manipulations of belief systems, cognitive processes, behavioral responses with specific goals/outcomes in mind.
No doubt, there is some of this involved with advertising, education, etc. But, I prefer people don't overuse the term as it is a very serious issue with potentially tragic, widespread consequences.
