"Cum hoc ergo propter hoc" is a logical fallacy. Just because two or more occurrences happen at about the same time, literally co-incidentally, does not mean one was the cause of any of the others. There may be a causal relationship, but there may not be. There are in fact many random unrelated coincidences.

Nice analysis of believers in religion and conspiracy. I can see how there might be a correlation. Of course, it might just be a coincidence. :P That's what statistics is for. Collect a ton of data and see if there is reasonable confidence in a correlation. Thanks for the article; I enjoyed reading it!
