It's the effect gotten from taking a substance believed to be medication but which has no physiological effect in a real sense. The placebo effect could be positive; relieve and symptoms reduction or negative; side effect

When someone gets what he believes to be medicine, which isn't, the reaction he gets after; it could be positive or negative. He could get relieve or symptoms may improve. The person may have what seems to be side effects.
