Why do you think not believing in a god automatically means that a person doesn't believe in anything? I believe in a lot of things.
- I believe in YOU for starters! I can at least carry a two-sided conversation with you instead of a monologue.
- I believe in my family and friends and the strangers I meet on the street every single day.
- I believe in the sun and the moon, the birds and the bees.
- I believe it is good for us to care about each other and our environment.
- I believe it is in my own best interest to make sure everybody on this planet can live a happy and decent life, free from harm, detriment and persecution by others because of what their personal beliefs may be.
- I believe every single human being should have the rights given to them in the Universal Declaration of Human Rightsand be able to explore and cultivate their own personal development.
- I believe the scientific method has given us the best, non-dogmatic way, of understanding the world around us.
- I believe that there is nothing I can know to be absolutely true or certain except that I can't now anything for certain.
For if I question my life and doubt my views about reality I can not at the same time doubt that doubt! (Please don't hesitate te re-read the previous sentence. It took me a while to wrap my head around that one too!)
And I believe all these things because there is good evidence to support those beliefs. Not because some ancient text or priest tells me there is some kind of celestial dictator that commands me to do this on bad evidence or else I risk being tormented in hell for ever.
Oh, and I must love him too, or else! With respect, I remain your humble servant,
