When our best 'furry' friends pass away, if you are like me, it can be just as painful to the heart as if it were a human family member…(Because they are a family member)
Over time, the hurt slowly subsides, but the mourning may linger for years to come. It sneaks up on us long after we think we’re over the loss of our best friend; in ways unexpected.
As time progresses, when our little friends come back to mind, our emotions fluctuate between sadness and smiles…we’re sadly missing them, yet happily remembering those things we loved about them.
So…This is a contest in which you can honor your dog, cat or whatever by writing about them in a post here on Steemit. Immortalize them on the blockchain, sharing their story…It is a ‘writing’ contest of sorts with ‘few’ rules, and a variety of rewards.
Prizes:
- Three authors, will receive at least one SBD each or a SBI membership
- Two other authors will receive .500 SBD
- All others will of course be given ‘special’ up-votes (eligible entries only)
The ‘BEST’ reward will be in your ‘sharing’ the memory of your loving pet with each other here on steemit
NOTE:
You can write about ‘any loss’ of a pet, whether they passed away, have gone missing, or other circumstances. It’s all about sharing your feelings.
RULES:
Yuck…I hate rules, but need to add some to make this contest more manageable for me, and any other judge/curator.
English Composition Only
Word Length – 700 or under (preferred)
Insert a ‘Link’ to Your Post in the Comment Section Below
The Title of Your Story Should be ‘Pet Tribute Contest’…or Include that somehow within the title
(NO plagiarism)…The post must be ‘ORIGINAL’
SUGGESTIONS:
An up-vote here would be nice
A Re-Steem of this post is greatly appreciated
Inter-acting with ‘others’ and their story, brings me smiles
HAVE FUN…
START DATE: May 19, 2018
CLOSING DATE: May 25, 2018
Five days to get your entries in…Good Luck, and Thank You
What is SBI…? It is a community here on Steemit, that gives you ‘UP-VOTES’ on your posts for life… Check them out @steembasicincome

That was a great excuse to get back into writing fiction.
Here's the story.
https://steemit.com/writing/@nathan-rokus/pet-tribute-contest-the-good-boy
It's based on my German shepherd we had to put down when I was a kid. The stuff in the story is total fiction however.
Thank you for submitting a story...At least it was 'inspired' by your pet lost as a child. Also, I see that you resteemed the contest announcement, which I thank you for. You have up-votes from a sponsor for being descriptively honest with your submitted entry. Welcome back to the 'writing'...contests are good for practicing and developing your talent. Regards @averageoutsider
This is genuinely amazing writing!
Wow! whatever it is...You've got it my friend. I thoroughly enjoyed the piece from start to finish your descriptive qualities are second to none. I was in shock for a little while at the culmination I gotta confess. I am so glad you entered this contest just so I had the pleasure of stumbling across your work!
Your contest is hotting up my friend @averageoutsider.
I will of-course be back soon to upload the link to my story (think 700 words...think 700 words...Brevity) although feeling a tad inferior to @nathan-rokus I am joking of-course but not about his immense literary talent :)
Take great care, see ya very soon :D

Here's my pet tribute contest submission!
I have only ever owned one dog, but I lived with several cats.
Of the lot, Minou is the fondest memory. She was an albino -- pure white fur, pink skin and nose, pale blue eyes. Her body was minute, I think she grew up to three-quarters the size of a normal domestic cat, and she was deaf.
Minou was eerily quiet, tidy, perceptive. She could sense a pen being dropped, or a window being opened, anywhere in the building. Once or twice a day, she would go on a hunt outside, but most of the time, she preferred staying indoors, in a familiar environment which she knew thoroughly.
Over the years, she took on uncanny human-like qualities. She would watch tv with my parents in the evenings, and she learned to turn pages in picture books. If you knocked on the floor, she would understand she was being called and quickly show up. In so many ways, she was part of our routine -- feeding her, cleaning her litter, disposing of the dead mice.
Yeah, the mice. There was a small woodland area across the street opposite my house, a kind of reserve that town hall kept pristine and inaccessible to the public. So there were a few rodents, occasionally we saw owls or pheasants... Well if there's a domestic cat's paradise, I think it would look like that. So Minou would go out for a stroll, and later she would return with a dead mouse in her mouth, and deposit it carefully at my feet, and proudly stand at attention, waiting for a compliment or a treat.
Minou's health was ever failing. In the end, she only lived nine years; one morning, she simply didn't wake up. My parents were devastated and decided (not for the first time, nor the last) that they would not take any more pets. Oddly enough, I was not. Sure, I missed my cat, but... She lived a full good life, you know? She enjoyed herself, so much. I was sad to see her go, but happier still, that she had been a part of my time.
Such a beautiful tribute, to a beautiful little angel named Minou...Thank you @gwilberiol for sharing her 'Earthy' life with us. I'm sure she is still alive and well in another dimension...
Albino felines are commonly found to have hearing problems, but compensate well for it. Often when one of our senses are muted, other sense organs become heightened.
Although a cat can live a fairly long life, (not long enough for 'us' though) some breeds are known to live much shorter a period. I lost one a couple years ago who was well taken cared for, seemed perfectly happy and healthy....then just suddenly, one day, she just faded away...at about the same age.
Have a wonderful day. Loved your post. Regards @averageoutsider
Yes! the human-like qualities that pets take on are amazing to witness.
Minou has stunning eyes that picture above is absolutely beautiful. I in a similar way to your parents decided that I would have no more pets after my dog died, but like you I came to the realisation that I had received such love and joy from her that, yes I was happy she had been such a great part of my life. I did in time choose another dog as I understood the pain was the other side of the coin. Without the pain or risk of it, we can never experience that love and joy.
Thanks for sharing Minou's story, take good care my friend :D
'Pet Tribute Contest', Always at home, we have been lovers of animals, dogs, cats, rabbits, birds.
The most beloved was a dog, his mother was a pekin, his father never knew, she one day escaped from home and return punished by our beloved Puchis.
Puchis was with us for 16 years, went out every morning to do his physiological needs, was the guardian and caretaker of the house, ate all kinds of food, did not like to be banded, or be vaccinated, we had to subject him to several.
Three years ago, he remained very still in his resting space and died, his death brought much sadness to everyone.
Hi @nayibe ... Nice to hear about Punchis; sorry for the loss. Enter the writing contest with your story...You appear to be a good writer.
Many Regards @averageoutsider
Congratulations: You won 0.500 SBD in contest...Check your wallet.
I have always grown up around pets too...
I think being around our animal friends makes us better humans, if that makes sense? The unreserved, unconditional love they show us when we look in their eyes teaches us something and is good for the soul I believe. I love to spend time playing with my dog, stroking her beautiful coat and it de-stresses me, of this I have no doubt.
My favourite part of this weeks contest is the chance it gives us to fondly remember our beloved friends who one day left us. It gives a chance to re-live the fun and joy they brought us. My Lady and your Puchis live on again today in our chance to happily tell others of them :)
Lovely to meet you @nayibe there are many contests here from the amazing @averageoutsider it would be great to see you here again if you have the time. These contests have made me many friends on Steemit, friends so wonderful I could not have imagined I would make.

Here is my entry to the contest, this was ridiculously emotional to write towards the end.

I really need to learn to make those slick short links that hide 10,000 characters of text lol.
I believe I probably missed the deadline as life and even a funeral to prepare for and to attend got in the way.
Life has a way doesn't it?
This is not a problem at all my friend. I still wanted to share the story of Lady and her impact on our family as I had written it with intention of quick edit and submit later.
Fab contest this week :D
