RE: Winners announcement: STACH Short Story Contest #23.

in #contest7 years ago (edited)

Wawwuuu. I don't think judge went through all the submissions. Either that or the judge does not have proper understanding of the English language or creative writing. The submissions above are woefully inadequate to merit winning this contest. I read through most of the submissions and I was wowed by some amazing entries. I'm surprised none of them are here at all. Look at the winner of this contest for instance. His plot is sooo weak it borders on irrelevance to the subject matter. This is in addition to several grammatical errors in the submission.

Imagine

  • Winner: "because I was not minded of the signals
_ 1st runner up: "regular route I go everyday

The fourth and fifth place submissions were absolutely poor. They just put red just to have an affiliation with the concept. Their story line was not tailored or even creative. Mehn, I'm disappointed o. Kileleyi bayii?

Hi, judges are humans as you are and what is a good story to them may not be the same to you. On this contest we respect our selected judges decision and will not support your utterances of incompetence on their part.
Bear in mind, everyone is entiltled to their opinions and we have to respect our judges.

@ejemai, with all due respect to the judge, this is not just any random story. There were laid down rules and guidelines and even a theme for the story. The criteria for winning was based on due diligence of these guidelines. But purely from an objective point of view this result was not properly examined. I mean, I don't know why more people are not objecting because it's very obvious to me. But like you said, we all have our own opinions and this is just the opinion of one concerned steemian. I just thought that since this exercise was aimed at sponsoring and encouraging creativity, we would actually pay more attention to actual creativity.

That said, I appreciate the judge's effort. It's not easy "marking that many scripts". Weare all grateful for the steps @stach is taking to "ginger" us in this platform. Bravo!
