I will go with Tolkien as the main instigator of a genre. The universe is relatively simple but once the other factors like language and lore is brought into the equation, it is a masterpiece considering its time.

Will have to agree with you on this one despite my current obsession with Game of Thrones; there would be no GoT without this one.

Where do I even begin. I loved Matrix (especially with The Animatrix backstories about the creation of Matrix and other related stories) I'm a huge fan of Ender's Game. Discworld by Terry Pratchett is amazing:

One Piece had a great and very complex world with massive history and geopolitics that could easily put Dragonball to shame:

But if you really need to have a taste of a universe, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann where a birth of a new universe s an actual attack used by the final boss. This is a massive spoiler. Enjoy at your own risk:

I’m going with George Lucas - Star Wars, the only good reason is because I grew up with the films and they just became an obsession in my life.

Tolkien, hands down. He created entire languages and lengthy ancestries in addition to middle Earth and all of it's inhabitants. Comedy, drama, horror, suspense, romance are all found within his books. His books have enthralled generations and inspired uncountable other fantasy stories. I cannot even fathom creating what he did from scratch.

The ONE and ONLY answer ist

GENE RODDENBERRY / STAR TREK

for his vision of a positive human future, which we cannot recognize today at all.

I would say, Roddenberry's Star Trek universe. Especially its model for the human race: no more wars, no decisions led by greed, no starvation and so on. Everybody can take the profession he wants and be creative.
A great vision - and still a long way to go for us...

Okay I’m not entering the contest. I’m just here to give applause! Everyone has a “nutty ass week” sometimes. A true leader pushes past it, as you have, @blewitt! Good job making stuff happen anyway!

Much love to you my dear. ❤️

Much love back, my friend! ❤️

All right, brother, I'm gonna weigh in here. The greatest has definitely got to be Tolkien. While others have taken the reins and expanded the universes of Star Trek, Star Wars, and Marvel (much love to Stan the Man, he was my 2nd pick), Tolkien built the whole of his universe including multiple languages, and he did so in an age that required pure imagination. He crafted his universe using words and drew the readers in with those same words, enticing us to want to journey with Bilbo and the Dwarves to steal back the treasure from Smaug. Tolkien expanded his universe on his own, with no agenda of making bank from it, per se, but rather looking to entertain, delight, educate, and enthrall his audience. He was a wise man and he knew how to tell a story of good and evil, how to craft the words together, and he did all of that on his own. He also maintained a proper series "bible" and was consistent in all that he wrote, not expounding on or expanding after the fact with little tidbits like Harry Potter does, or having some inherent contradictions as found in Star Trek, or have an expanded universe that was canon and is no longer canon as is with Star Wars. His ideas are unique and contain within them the spirit of the human quest, unlike the sanitized fairy tales of Disney (read some of the original fairy tales, there are few happy endings in them). Tolkien established the fantasy genre to allow for the creation of things such as Dungeons and Dragons, and even giving way to George R. R. Martin's work. What remains is Pokémon and Dragonball, and while Pokémon can range from adorable to wicked, that universe lacks the character-driven stories and the depth of lore. And Dragonball... I'm reasonably certain that the whole of the DB/DBZ universe is based on a combination of acid trip and constipation - talking animals, aliens, and the fact that Dragonball and Dragonball Z are massive departures from each other, toss in the absurd martial arts training in gravity that should crush a human being into paté, and have you seen those guys try to power up in DBZ...?

tl;dr - Tolkien for the win!

Dear @blewitt

I'm not familiar with the topic so I cannot really contribute much with my comment. Allow me only to give you small suggestion.

It's best to use steem-bounty.com to distribute prize between those who are engaging here. Did you ever use that tool? You will like it.

Cheers

OK, where do we start? Firstly, we can eliminate Tolkien, Martin, Rowling, Disney, Lewis, Toriyama & Tajiri. As good as their creations are, by definition I can't truly call them universes, so they're out.

That leaves Roddenberry, Lucas and Lee.

Star Trek - I enjoy it, and I think it was probably ahead of its time when the original series was forst released. The fact that new spin off series and movie remakes have been a feature of Roddenberry's creation for decades speaks volumes.

Marvel - Stan Lee's creation has probably had a bigger impact on my adult years, primarily because of the movies over the last 10 years bringing back a crapload of memories.

So that leaves Star Wars. Growing up, the Original Trilogy was huge in my formative years. To create so many iconic characters as well as launch some pretty huge acting careers. The prequels and the newer movies (despite their critics) are also quite enjoyable to watch. My 3 year old daughter already recognises C-3PO, R2D2 and Yoda, so what does that tell us about being iconic. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to get down to Mos Eisley Cantina and find a smuggler to give me a lift.

There is an argument to be had for any of them but I have to go with JK Rowling. The others were polar but she captured multiple generations across all people and countries. It reached everywhere.

The world she built was amazing in how real it was to people and how believable the characters were. Not only was it fully immersive but rich in background and detail. The writing might not have been of the highest quality but the story, characters and setting were amazing. It was fantasy but we could all see ourselves being a part to that world.

Akira Toriyama, because he did not create one - but 12 universes.
Who is already above the inventor of the king of everything?

well, this seems to be pretty unfair --Disney bought Marvel and Star Wars and also have a lot of Original Stories so Disney should win this.
Disney has 3 in 1 :)

I might be expected to go with Tolkein, but I think Marvel has created something amazing. Of course you have to wonder how all those superheroes could coexist. Their battles could wipe out a lot of normal people. There's such a span of imagination to come up with all the characters.

I'm gonna have to color outside the lines and say Frank Herbert. The universe of Dune is the most amazing of all, spanning hundreds of thousands of years of epic history. Not to knock the others (I love them all), but Herbert's legacy (carried on by his son) stands alone.

The greatest stories are ones that grow continually outward in an ever-expanding body of lore. That's what I'm doing with the official Steem Monsters lore. We started with a place in time. The Splinterlands. Now. We have created such an extensive body of lore, that endless stories can be told within the world. It's very exciting.

lore book. Everything is open sourced, so anyone can use the lore, spinning it in whatever direction they please. Anyway, now I'm rambling.Soon, every #SteemMonsters player and creative mind will have access to this world through the upcoming

Frank Herbert, final answer, especially since Tolkien is non-fiction. ;)

I'll decline consideration for the prize

Toriyama without a doubt. It is the most childlike universe, yes, it is true, but at the same time it is the largest and most diverse.

Humans live in a world with anthropomorphs, animals, aliens, androids, demons, gods, sorcerers, dragons. They travel to different planets, including, they travel in time, without mentioning that they have the world of the living and the dead; which in turn is divided into two. He also created a lot of transformations, like the Super Saiyan and many others.

Dont need money, dont need fame. Dont need a credit card to ride on this train.. Excellent this will now play repeatedly in my head for days thank you.

@blewitt

First, I was sure for Tolkien but the question was who created the better universe?

Then i changed my answer to J.K Rowling.
Not being feminist, but she, among all males, created the best series of imagination.

She created the better version of universe whithin the fiction and in the real world, I guess.

It's just an opinion.. I hope you wouldn't mind.

My vote is for Gene Rodenberry for Star Trek. I think his optimism for the future of humanity was unique.
I think living up to Rodenberry's ideals would be an awesome thing for humans in general, and we sure could use the influence of the Vulcans in today's world of childish emotions run amok.
Although I love most of these universes, Star Trek has captured my imagination, and, I believe, changed my life for the better as I try to become Starfleet material.
Also, this is what gave us Jean-Luc Picard!

Sup Dork! Enjoy the upvote!!!

(Warning Advisory: Children probably shouldn't be reading this. Unless they're some weird ass kids.)

I'm gonna have to go with J.K. Rowling. Just on the count that at this point in time, by reading the Harry Potter books, the reader themselves will end up being a gay furry.

Also, Pokemon doesn't even deserve a spot on there. I fucking love Pokemon, but the lore is all over the god damn place and most of the stories/characters are as thin as a piece of paper being torn through by my nipples.

Actually, I'm gonna go with Dragon ball/Dragon Ball Z, because all that masculinity, muscles and prolonged screaming is exactly what I needed to become the man I am today.

I'm going to pick walt disney. He made my childhood amazing. He made dream of bigger dreams, he made me also believe that if there's goodness there will always a good happening in life. His works influenced me to dream, to love, to help and to be happy.
