I want to thank everyone for participating in the contest and posting their stories. Special thanks to @acheever for the contest idea.
In the contest post I never said how things would be picked (that is my fault). Usually I do random but in this case that didn't seem to fit. So I picked the winners. This one was hard to judge since everyone's entry was good. And it seems a common theme that most people's worst moment is working hard on content and not getting any upvotes. And, people's best is usually big unexpected upvote from a whale. So I picked entries that were a little bit different and I thought pretty interesting.
So with that said here is who I picked:
First: @ralk98
Second: @lawless
Third: @thaishps
Well, I have been just 3 months on Steemit and I have not experienced much, so I don't have any "super interesting story" to tell, but I'm going to give it a try anyway :)
My worst experience happened because I didn't know how to properly use the platform, I was told that quality content is what people like here, so motivated by the big payouts I saw in the trending page, I started writing and posting as if there was no tomorrow, lol.
TO MY SURPRISE, my posts were not getting any votes. And I was very disappointed because I bent over backwards to make articles about science and stuff that required a lot of research, and my broken English made it more difficult because I had to proofread all of them. It didn't matter how much effort I put on my articles I was about one step from falling off the edge.
But not everything is bad news!
Here comes my best moment on Steemit so far. I had been told that it was necessary to socialize and actually interact with other users to get more followers (also to have more fun). So, I said to myself why not having fun commenting on the topics I like and maybe gain some friends and followers in the process. This was nice because I realized that in this community, when you give you receive, and if you support others you are likely to get something back.
So, to make a long story short. I was looking for new posts to read because it was night and I had insomnia, and I like to read. And all of a sudden I notice that some users create contests on the platform, so I decided to participate. There was nothing to lose!
So, I participated in two lotteries. Wrote random numbers, and went to sleep because it was 3 am and I looked like a Zombie.
Next day I wake up at around 1 pm and since I downloaded @Ginabot the previous day, I opened discord to see my account activity.
And the surprise was there!
I won both contests!
(Representation of my face at that moment)
I couldn't believe that after trying to get some profit from the platform, the effort paid off! (plus good luck). I remember that one of the prizes was 38$ and I don't remember the other one. I donated one of the two prizes to an organization in my country because when you give, you receive :3
Now a days, I have made some friends and followers, and I also receive more profit from my articles, I haven't been so lucky again, but I continue participating in several contests and creating educative posts. This is a great place to be and do what you like, most people are respectful and try hard to provide good content to the community.
I know my experiences are not a lot, but I hope we continue creating value together, and this social media keeps growing up to the moon!
Thank you for this opportunity to express ourselves. I hope this encourages all those who are about to give up. Just remember this:
Effort always pays off!
PD: I'm still learning English, I apologize for the mistakes I possibly made. I practice every day to improve :)
Best Moments:
I still remember that day, it was Jan 18. When I woke up, I saw a mail that my Steemit account was approved. I finalized the account, and as soon as I sign in, I saw the trending posts. Luckily, I saw the post by @acidiyo, it was about the Steem Fantasy Premier League(SFPL), and the post had prediction result for that week and SFPL league table. Being a Premier League fan, and a regular FPL player, I was interested in that post. I had played FPL for 8 years now. The entry on the league was closed in GW 2, and if I had played the league, I would be a top 10 position there. I commented the screenshot of my FPL points and wrote "I missed the entry in here, if I had played from the start, I would be on top 10". Acidiyo and a couple of whale voted my comment, that comment paid me nearly $3, and my reputation rose from 25 to 29 with that single comment. I had no idea about whales, minnows at that time, but that comment taught me a lot, and I explored a lot about Steemit afterward. I would say this incident to be my best moment on this platform.
Worst moments:
After this best moments, it was a 1 month of painful experience in Steemit. I started posting something about football, the topic I love the most. I got no recognization at all. I didn't use to get upvotes, even if I get, it will be from minnows. The post-payout after waiting 7 days would exactly be 0. I had almost left Steemit, because of this frustration. I would say this period of the month to be the worse period of my Steemit experience.
Conclusion:
Now, I have figured out my way and doing good. My post are getting recognized, people now know me who I am. I have started making friends here, and working together in some content creation. I am having wonderful journey. I am thankful for this lovely Steemit community, where I am exploring the world of decentralization and digitalization, and my girlfriend, whom I asked to join Steemit, and now she helps me in my every step in Steemit and my growth here.
My worst moment
When I received a flag and did not understand why. That red dot in the https://steemstats.com application broke my day. Then, I started to investigate and I found another user who had posted a post complaining about the "heather2000" account, the same one that had marked me. He followed up and could see that this account was distributing flag left and right without considering the content.
I did my own research and I noticed that all of us who had commented on that post were marked. I got very angry. I made a translation into Spanish of the article "palikari123".
I only had two weeks on the platform and I was disappointed to discover that here too, power is concentrated in a few hands and that small fish are subject to their whim.
There are certain things that I find absurd in Steemit, such as 68 people voting for you and only adding $ 0.05. I have used some bots, but either I do not know how to use them or they are simply a fraud. Every day I see wonderful posts with just $ 0.002 and other lousy ones with $ 300.
Since I discovered that all those upvote are bought, I breathe easy. My post does not receive votes not for bad, but because I do not have to pay Bots. But Steemit is in Beta, I guess these incongruities will adjust over time.
My best moment
Came a few days later. I found another post from an influential account complaining about the power abuse of the whales and, as the issue of the downvote was still recent, I commented on what had happened to me. The following week, I received a congratulatory message: I had won 5SBD for my comment.
It turns out that the author would reward the best and, I was the winner. The funny thing is that I did not know there would be a reward. It was wonderful news! I was able to solve some things in my house with that prize. In my country, that amount can be considered a small fortune.
You have a minor misspelling in the following sentence:
It should be their instead of thier.Oops need to punch myself this time. I've corrected this "minor misspelling".
Thank you!!!
Congratulations! You had an interesting entry that I liked :)
I must admit that that bad moment, now has brought me good times like this, because it gave me an anecdote to tell. If you do any of that kind, I will not be able to participate again.😀 Thank you again.
Don't worry. I don't plan on repeating this contest. The plan is to have the weekly be different every week.
I never gain anything in your contests :(
