I have always wondered what it feels like to be on the moon, but I just content myself looking at it when it's visible in the sky with my telescope or even just with my naked eyes. My husband bought me a beginner's telescope for our anniversary last year because he knows how much I love the moon.
I built a telescope in the 1980's when Halley's comet was approaching. My scope is a 12.5 inch diameter Newtonian design reflector.
I strongly believe that one day, in the Glory, we will have the opportunity to explore the universe. If I don't meet you before then, I hope we'll have a chance to hang out and perhaps see some of the moon together... ;)
By the way, it is awesome that you were able to build your own telescope. Mine is just the National Geographic 76/700 EQ Premium Telescope. I am still getting the hang of it, studying how every part of it works.
I had not encountered that scope before, but looking now at its specifications, I would expect that you should be able to observe the closer planets (Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Venus, Mercury) and probably one or two deep sky objects (most notably, M42, the Great Nebula in Orion).
No not yet. I have only used it five times so far since October just to look at the moon and also because I am still working out how to use it. I just didn't get the chance yet to use it recently as I have been busy during the Christmas holiday. But definitely I will use it very soon.
One day, if that happens we won't even think about space and universe because we will be in the Kingdom and everything around us is just glorious and beautiful and we will forever be in awe of our Creator.
In the meantime, we can enjoy all the wondrous things that are before us... sometimes with the use of these man-made tools to help us even more to appreciate all these things.
Ah, but I think you've possibly missed a subtle but important point:
It isn't possible that we will cease to think about and appreciate our Creator's handiwork. Our appreciation for the cosmos will only grow. He has promised us New Heavens and a New Earth, and I for one intend to explore them all.
From scanning your blog, I know that you are an educator, but (as far as I can tell), not a mom yet...
But imagine for a moment that you had a young child, and you made her a very special Christmas gift. Now, try to imagine that after tearing the wrappings off your special gift, she set it aside, ignored it, and simply sat staring up at you with some idyllic expression on her face. How would you feel?
Our LORD has this to say to us, about His new creation:
"But be glad and rejoice forever
in that which I create;
for behold, I create Jerusalem to be a joy,
and her people to be a gladness." - Isaiah 65:18
Our LORD wants us to enjoy His beautiful creation. He made it for us and is gifting us with it.
Wow! I didn't think of it that way. All I could think of was I can't wait until that day comes that I will be with my Heavenly Father and all I want to do is worship and praise Him which is our ultimate purpose why we are here on Earth.
But yes, God made all these things for us to enjoy and appreciate so that we can give Him back all the glory and honour and praise.
Thank you for your words of wisdom. I am not a mother yet, but I do understand what you're trying to point out. If I do something for my child or for anyone, I would like them to enjoy and appreciate it because it is a gift purposefully for them.
Mission on Earth or planet invasion? Either way would be one great space adventure.

Oh, I would love to see more of my own planet...
But I long to tread the lunar lava tubes and climb the mountains on Mars...

Blessings, friend!
