RE: Win 1.5 SBDs in VDux's Adolescent Haiku Contest About Teenagers

in #contest6 years ago (edited)

Meet at Bob's Big Boy,
me, hot tea; her, cherry Coke.
And still we're close friends.

Written for my closest childhood friend, Rocky, whom I've known from age six, and we were best friends by age seven.

For those unfamiliar, Bob's Big Boy was a chain restaurant in Southern California, where I grew up, and was also the name of their signature burger. Which, as teens, we both dearly loved.

There was one close to our high school, and to her apartment, and it became one of our favorite hangouts after school, sometimes just the two of us, and often with additional friends.

She had an unnatural devotion to cherry Coke. And, of course, I'm still a lover of hot tea, though usually green rather than black. I actually have two full kitchen drawers devoted to different traditional and herbal teas, with still more in the cabinets. ;-)

And we are indeed still close friends, all these years later. I need to call her. Thanks for the reminder.
