RE: Win 1.5 SBDs in VDux's Haiku Contest About Pets

Our doves, Gaz and Zim,
are quieter now that GIR,
their friend, is now gone

Yes, I admit it, I'm an "Invader Zim" junkie. ;-)

GIR was our first dove, gifted to me by a close friend, after I mentioned in passing that Marek wanted a bird.

He'd neglected to mention that what he really wanted was a parrot. ;-)

Zim was given to us by Marek's daughter, Karolina, to be his mate, but turned out to be another male. Oops.

Then a neighbor who raised white doves gave us a dove, which turned out to be a third male. What are the chances?

She then brought us another dove, having seen her lay an egg, and the white dove promptly bonded with Zim. Not surprising, as GIR was picking on them both, while they lived together in a large enclosure in our Florida back yard.

So upon moving to Tennessee, GIR lived in a smaller cage, while Gaz and Zim took up residence in the much larger parrot cage, on our covered front porch. And, while they both coo from time to time, Zim sings far less often than did GIR.

Occasionally the boys took part in singing contests, which was always a joy to hear, and entertaining, as they were doing it to impress Gaz. And GIR was our standing champion singer, mostly since Zim, as her mate, had less to prove.

I miss our lovely boy, and his serenades, even if he was mean to the other doves. To us he was a sweetheart and a lovely soul.

Sounds like a great bird, probably one of those guys who's a little annoying and mean but also a whole lot of fun to hang out with.

Yup, indeed he was, and I miss him.
