Hello fellow Steemians!
Welcome to my 7 World’s Continents Photo Challenge - South American Saturday - where the winner of the weekly round will be able to participate for the total of 200 SBD! Today, you can participate by submitting your personal pictures from your travels to the continent of South America.

Your entries need to be submitted by the midnight of Central European Time in order to be considered for the challenge with a description of approximately 30 to 50 words. Only one picture can be submitted for a daily photo challenge. The rule number one is to use only personal images. Ten winning photos will receive an upvote from me from which I will pick one winner that will receive extended publicity in my post tomorrow morning. I will also visit his/her blog to upvote one of the most recent posts.
The winner of daily challenge then competes against winners from other continental challenges of the respective week to receive the price of 20 SBD. That will be decided by you based on the dollar value of upvotes of my winning post announcement. The winning weekly picture then automatically enters other rounds for the price of 200 SBD in total.
Please see the winners of the previous daily contests and give them your support if you like their images to be the one winning the weekly price and entering the other stages of the 7 World’s Continents Photo Challenge. You can vote for your favorites by upvoting their winner announcement posts below:
7 World’s Continents Photo Challenge – Asian Sunday week #16 – winner announcement!
@narchuk Asian Sunday entry:
It happened in Thailand, in the Andaman Sea. At the very end of the dive I saw a sea turtle. She swam from coral to coral and did not notice my presence. Turtles are very calm, if you do not touch them. I swam next to her doing a frame-by-frame. At some point a flock of small fish swept past us. It lasted just a couple of seconds. I managed to make only one photo.
7 World’s Continents Photo Challenge – Australian Monday week #16 – winner announcement!
@vinceboisgard Australian Monday entry:
Stormy night over Darwin, this is a view from Nightcliff rocky beach if a thunder storm striking Darwin in the Northern territory of Australia. There nothing quite like it, I found it amazing to watch a bit like a firework.
@dmytrokorol Tuesday of Antarctica and world´s oceans entry:
When I first met the Ocean
We had been driving out of Lisbon to the south when the road led us to the coast. And I saw the ocean. And the setting sun. The colors were so beautiful! We stopped at the first place we had found I grabbed my gear and ran to the beach. Lucky me! It was Praia da Sines with these beautiful wooden stairs and the stones on the sandy beach. The first meeting was gorgeous. I knew there is more to come.
7 World’s Continents Photo Challenge – African Wednesday week #16 – winner announcement!
@eaglest African Wednesday entry:
I took this image on the Island "El Hierro" which is located about 500km west of Africa. In the ancient world "El Hierro" was considered as western end of the world. On his second voyage Christoph Columbus started from here into the new world.
7 World’s Continents Photo Challenge – European Thursday week #16 – winner announcement!
@edward.maesen European Thursday entry:
A windmill in the province of Limburg, in the southern part of The Netherlands where I grew up. In many villages you'll find one or two windmills though few are still in use. Luckily some are maintained/restored and open to the public to view.
7 World’s Continents Photo Challenge – North American Friday week #16 – winner announcement!
@crazy-andy North American friday entry:
This photo is from September 2014, when we were on 21 days long trip around USA. I am sure that most of you can recognize what is on the picture, mighty Grand Canyon. It was rainy day, so I thought that such photos won’t be possible but late afternoon the sun looked out and glorious sunset began.

Beach in Juan Dolio, a small coastal town and tourist resort on the southern coast of the Dominican Republic. It is a short ride to the capital city Santo Domingo as well as to ports where you can sail to the famous Saona Island from. Caribbean at its best :) Photo taken in December 2015.
Great entry, looking very peaceful. Thank you for your submission. Tomas
About 20 km from Puerto Viejo in Limón Province you will find the most spectacular Cahuita National Park of Costa Rica. In the park you will find a great diversity of mother nature washed by Caribbean Sea. Also it is home of sloths, colorful snakes, basilik lizards, monkeys and many others.
Great image, what a paradise! Thank you for sharing and have a great day. Tomas
Photo of Chichirivichi de la Costa. It is a very well known bay in the central coast of Venezuela, at Vargas State. It is a common place for doing scuba diving. These bays formed closed to the mountains are very characteristic of the central coast of Venezuela.
Thank you so much for your participation. The winner announcement will be coming later on today, stay tuned. Tomas
Welcome to Mars, that's how I titled this photo of Valle de Marte near San Pedro de Atacama. I went there early in the morning, long before sunrise and climbed this huge dune. There I sat in silence and waited, watching as the mountains in the distance began to slowly emerge from the gloom.
Incredible image! What a great entry. Tomas
I took this photo in the Atacama Desert, the driest desert on earth. I was coming back from a trip to the altiplano at 4500m altitude when i encountered this nice colorful sunset. In the distance you can see the vulcanoes of the andes mountains.
For more photos please visit my post: https://steemit.com/travel/@eaglest/come-with-me-to-one-of-the-driest-places-on-earth-the-atacama-desert
Beautiful shot! Atacama was one of my favorite places for landscape photos when I lived in Chile =) So many otherworldly views there!
Thank You. Atacama and the altiplano is great. I had a lot of fun there with my small 4x4. I'm looking forward to return in the near future...
Simply stunning. What a fabulous image. Kindly stay tuned for the winner announcement coming later on today. Tomas
My South American entry:
I took this photo when hiking towards Cerro Fitz Roy mountain from the village El Chaltén in Argentina. It is an unforgettable trek filled with epic views along the way. I love the serenity and the color palette of beautiful fall foliage.
Beautiful entry. Thank you so much for your submission. Tomas
A couple of weeks ago I submitted a photo of Panama City, Panama I called the calm before the storm. Well, this is a photo as the storm moved in. Within a few minutes after I took this, the clouds opened and there was a massive downpour. I'd say it last 20-30 minutes before tapering off and then moving out. I guess that's to be expected in a tropical country in the middle of summer!
Great clouds! The skyscrapers look so tiny against this dramatic sky...
Thanks! I love your entry too! And I just checked out your page. Great work! You have a new follower.
Hey, taken at the Malecón? :)
Great image Matt. Thank you so much for posting. Tomas
Puerto Varas, Chile
In 2015 My family and I were living in Region X of Chile. This particular house had a perfect view of of two beautiful volcanoes; Volcán Osorno on the left and Volcán Calbuco on the right. On the afternoon of April 22, Volcán Calbuco erupted without any prior indication of being active, and my tiny family and I were able to witness first hand - A once in a life time opportunity.
Welcome to the challenge! What a fabulous entry. Stay tuned for the winner announcement coming later on today. Tomas
Awesome, I will watch for it! Thanks, Tomas!
Brazil is wonderful in nature, especially one of my favorite places is Buzios peninsula. Its beaches are amazing because there you can find sand, stones, rocks and forest at the same time. Buzios is called Brazilian Saint Tropez.
Thank you so much for your participation. The winner announcement will be coming later on today, stay tuned. Tomas
Iguazu Falls, Brazil
The Iguazu Falls are located exactly on the border of Argentina and Brazil. In fact, I visited the falls twice, once on the Argentinian side and once on the Brazilian side. This shot is from the Brazilian side.

Amazing shot! Great to see it from the Brazilian side. I only visited it from the Argentinian side :)
I liked the Argentinian side better, it is more of a national park while the Brazilian side seems like a big tourist amusement park :D The waterfalls are beautiful anyways..
Beautiful shot! I'm bummed I never went there when I already lived on the same continent...one day, maybe!
You should, they are really beautiful!
Absolutely stunning!
Taken near Ensenada, Chile. Not far from Puero Varas, Chile where my wife and I lived for awhile. In this picture is the Petrohue River flowing in front of Volcano Osorno. In Februrary, I proposed to my wife at the lodge on the volcano. Oh, fun fact. We stayed in Santiago on our honeymoon. That building you posted (Costanera Center) is the tallest building in all of South America, and is also a shopping mall. It has a movie theater in it as well where we watched Fast and Furious 7. It is absolutely baffling to stand beside and look up at!
Thank you for your participation. However, I will be picking other images to go further due to a high number of entries. Have a great day. Tomas
Three Blue Footed Boobies, in La Española Island, Galápagos, Ecuador,

This picture is one I took while in Santiago Chile. I took this photo by an alter where people would lite candles and pray. It was an interesting place but beautiful as it overlooked the city.

Here is my entry in @czechglobalhosts photo contest....South American Saturday
My family moved to Puerto Varas, Chile in 2013. I missed them so much! So, I made a trip down there to visit them in October of 2015. It is such a beautiful country! They took me sightseeing to the Petrohué River in the Los Lagos Region of Chile. It is gorgeous!! It is a rushing river known for its recreational fishing.
It was an unforgettable trip!

The "Lost city" of Machu Picchu was built in the 15th century by the Incas. It is situated on a mountain ridge 2,430 metres (7,970 ft) above sea level and is a breathtaking site to be seen and experienced at least once in a lifetime. I cannot wait to go back there to explore more of its fascinating and peculiar architecture.

When we visited Bolivia, it changed everything in the way we travel. After Bolivia we got much more adventures. This picture was taken during the Aymara New Year for which we got up in the middle of the night to take a bus from La Paz.

Good morning sir.
This photo is a view of Portal del Fragua, located around a town called San Jose del Fragua in Colombia. This point is one of the attractions of the visitors to stop and take a photo. Here the rocky mountain is broken up to give way to the river fraguita. The legend says that the walls on either side represent two people who love each other and now they stare at each other.

Here is my nomation for today: https://steemit.com/photography/@mysevenworlds/5qdvdl-7-world-s-continents-photo-challenge-2018-south-america-entry
Hoooo nice! I have a fun one to submit.
Also, that first picture shows the Costanera Center which is currently the first tallest building in South America and the second tallest in the southern hemisphere. I'm fortunate enough to say that I have seen it in person on multiple occasions, and been in the mall that is beneath it. It's is truly stunning!
Here's a pic from the inside of the mall:
It has soooo many levels.
EDIT: This is NOT my entry, just thought I would share it with you. lol I will submit my entry in a different comment.
Travelling to the Galapagos as part of my Master's degree felt like a dream. It was an honor to visit the place where Darwin's observations of endemic finches planted the seed for his theories of evolution. I captured this shot of a marine iguana on Isabela Island back in 2012.
