Hey all, I'm new around here, a Kiwi living in Australia.
Complacency has to be number 1 in both countries
"nah, she'll be right mate" is gonna be the death of us
Refugees being held in prison camps offshore "nah, she'll be right mate"
Pensions being cut to sick elderly people "nah, she'll be right mate"
Corrupt politicians rorting the system for personal gain "nah, she'll be right mate"

No worries mate!
I myself lived in nz for a few years and even lived in aus with kiwies
Personally think thats a fabulous trait to be able to be positive in all situations
Miss those times..
it can be a very positive trait, until it gets to the stage where the plight of others is completely ignored, and the blatant disregard for human rights shown by those in power is given free reign
Dont get me wrong, I love my countrymen and their easygoing ways, and am in many ways typical myself, I just have a passion for equality and looking out for others
It always surprised me to hear about the foreign camps where they keep the refugees. It doesn't seem like something a prosperous, modern country would do...
especially a country with so much to offer, that has a history of welcoming refugees, many of whom have been major contributers to our society
