HAUNTED FROM BEYOND
Yesterday was a heck of a day for me. At exactly 07:00pm yesterday, I was frozen to fright right in my airy bedroom. I had just munched on a fresh green apple when I heard French music play from my Samsung. That had been my ringtone for two hundred and fifty days.
" Hello, good evening to you. Am I speaking with Barr. Inyene John? "
That was the baritone voice I heard over the phone which sounded like a squall in hurricane.
" Yes, you are."
" Your attention is needed in St. Patrick Hospital. Your friend, Liza Oteri, has been diagnosed with a new killer disease called SAPT. Hurry to Ward 11b."
In a complete state of confusion, I flung off my apple and wore the first cloth I saw in my wardrobe. Hurrying out without checking the mirror, I found out my feet were placed into wrong shoes but I didn't care.
Before the clock's short hand pointed to eight, I walked into Ward 11b of St. Patrick Hospital and saw Liza weeping her swollen eyes sore. When I touched her neck, it felt like the steam from a boiling water.
" What happened, Liza? "
Liza was dumb while the doctor responded.
" Liza is down with SATP. Based on the medical tests we ran on her, we discovered that she has been living with the virus for years. She is under chronic depression and may not survive if she doesn't respond to treatment."
When I heard this, I almost jumped out of my own skin. I knew Liza dreamt of becoming a renowned novelist.
" Doctor, what is SATP? How does it kill? "
I asked with a face of a worried donkey.
" SAPT can ruin any patient who fails to take proper medication. It eats up the flesh of victims who are afraid."
The doctor explained, fiddling with three syringes.
" But doctor, I have never heard about SATP. What's the full meaning?"
I asked in the most subtle manner.
"Ooops! Forgive me. I meant PAST not SATP. I pronounced it wrongly."
The doctor said.
Then, I realized that Liza was suffering from the virus called PAST. She forgot her future and let her past eat up her moxie. She paused the pursuit of her dream career because she couldn't get over her past. She messed up in the past but I wonder why she was ignorant of the fact that there is hope for the future and yesterday could be the only limitation.
