You can only pickpocket once in each battle/Stage once. So this counts (as its the first time he has done it this stage). Items stack, so @doctorcypto stats are..
2 life points: 
+1 to all player rolls 
-3 to an enemy roll 
Basically he has equivalent to a +4 to all future rolls (he risked it and it paid off big time!).
Gee, people better challenge him or take a risk and try to pick up equally good items or come the final he will have a good advantage :)
