RE: Minnow Support Project Weekly Resteem Contest! // Up to 70 Steem Prize Pool! // Use mspsteem.com to Double Your Prize!!!

in #contest7 years ago

Please forgive me if this is a dumb question. But I'm wondering if someone can please tell me why I should use my private posting key to login every day instead of the master account password, to log into any instance of condenser, as advised above? I am a registered member of MSP, and I'm educating myself and learning more everyday about steemit and about cryptocurrencies in general, but I don't understand why it wouldn't be okay to use my account password to log in. Am I missing something? Thank you in advance and apologies, lol... just trying to figure it all out. Thank you, minnow support program peeps, for offering contests like this and for supporting all of us newbies!

It's not preferred to use your master key unless you have no other choice than that, and it's for the security of your own account. Not only for MSP site, never use your master key anywhere else.

Hi @katteasis ! Thanks for replying! I honestly still am confused however. :( It is my understanding that we should never share our private keys anywhere, ever, and I get why that is important. But, it is the PRIVATE posting key that is needed to sign into mspsteem. I don't see how using one of my private keys to sign in could be more secure than using my master password. Maybe I am still missing something? I would really like to understand the logic here. If you can point me to somewhere that explains, I would be very appreciative!

Your master password is the main key for your account. If anything happens to it then you may not get your account back. Posting key gives posting authorization only(like post, comment, vote), and can't be used for fund transfer,so your funds are safe anyway. However using master key gives all the access, if a hacker get that then..?
