It was told and retold by the ancients of old that after that day the Sun Shall Rise No More.
It was to be the last day that the people of Primrose Creek would ever see the sunrise.
It had been foretold throughout generations for thousands of years about the last sunrise, and that day had arrived. This was the morning that the ancestors spoke of.
Life had thrived in Primrose Creek for thousands of years. The land was a rural beauty. Primrose Creek had managed to stay untouched by all the new development that had encroached upon and overtaken many other cities and farms nearby.
The air was free from pollution and the water was pure to drink. Primrose had an abundance of fruit trees. The soil was fertile and 25% of the land had been developed into farmland. And from year to year, the crops flourished.
The inhabitants of Primrose were people of great wisdom that always seemed to move to the beat of their own drum. They had a cultural lifestyle that was unique compared to the towns nearby. They were minimalist they had most of what they needed. They homeschooled their children, they had herbalist and healers.
Yet as the 21st century ushered in, times changed, and the youth did not value the ways of their parents. They wanted to explore and do more. At college age, the youth left for school and jobs in industry and technology.
In the last 25 years, many of the younger ones that left for school returned to Primrose. And in spite of the elders being adamant about the modern ways were not their ways, the young insisted and they used their skills to modernize some of the regions of primrose.
The builders built factories. The technological geniuses introduced Primrose to the internet, technology, and aspects of the digital world that made the work done at Primrose Creek easier.
The newly educated youth of Primrose felt it was time to give back by lightening the load of the elders. They felt that soon it would be time for the elders to step aside and let them take over.
They did not hear the elders continually say, "we have never needed more than what our hands could build and we never will."
Yet when the young opened the door to the modern digital techno age, along with that came those who had other ideas in mind. Investors, Bankers, Millionaires and Billionaires came. One group after another came. And when they looked at Primrose they only saw dollar signs.
This is when the plan was created. The plan could have included trying to buy the property from the residents. It was proposed by a few. But it was the majority that had the final say. They called themselves the NuPrimGroup, and the project they created was called Project Last Rising.
The NuPrim Group planned in secret for 18 months. And on this day their plan will be implemented. The Plan of The NuPrim Group was to drop gas bombs from the sky and they would go in and remove the bodies before anyone would know. After all Primrose Creek was about 40 miles from the nearest town.
What NuPrim did not know is that the elders of Primrose had a plan as well. Not only did they receive the prophecy that this day would come, but they also received the exact day and hour. The elders had prepared, they had completed everything they came to earth to do. All they needed to do had been done. Even the youth receiving education from the outside modern world was a part of the plan.
At 8:12 A.M. Bombs fell from the sky on Primrose Creek. The toxic fumes covered the entire region of Primrose. When the Hazmat teams arrived they found no people, no animals. The residents of Primrose Creek had vanished.

Amazing pic! :D
Ooo, very mysterious. I like the ending. For a moment, I was worried it was going to get dark... or intense... but instead, just poof... and I love it!
Thanks @pegasusphysis, I struggled with the ending. And then I asked the question. "People of Primrose what happens to you?" And then the answer just came to me. And actually I sprinkled clues throughout the story. Read it again and you will see them. And who doesn't love a little mystery it's like creme in my coffee.
Man there is some great and tough competition. Great story and best of luck!
Great job zen! I'm probably going to always call you that because it's easy to type and it's in my head from Writers' Block. Don't underestimate the elders... that's all I can say! 😃
