no, but if you have 3 people total making up one group and two of those people were in the IT department, you would say that 66.67%(.666 continued) of that group is in IT. Hence how you would have 66.67%, not of a person, but of a whole.

no thats not how the numbers work. i see what you're saying but even in this broken problem that's not correct. look below at @satyamsoni's answer. The number before that crazy fraction states that there are 42.5 adjuncts. We're not talking about what percent of the faculty are adjuncts, we're talking about how many adjuncts there were in 2010.
