It's my view that the status quo in terms of views is down to lack of competition, people are barely trying. If users start getting a little bit of recognition and rewards for actually pushing their posts (and even other people's posts) out there to the broader web, that could easily change.
There's already some traffic being driven by this contest even with the tiny handful of users who are entering (none of whom afaik with the possible exception of @philnews.xyz are professionals in SEO or driving web traffic) and the incredibly tiny budget available.
Thanks for the mention @demotruk I may have experience in terms of SEO but I have been offline working for the past three years so I wasn't able to update the new techniques that came out since I started doing SEO works.
