"Do not go gentle into that good night" - Dylan Thomas
https://www.poets.org/poetsorg/poem/do-not-go-gentle-good-night
First heard in the movie Interstellar, it's putting a nice explanation for their motivation. (Btw great movie, definitely worth seeing.)
In those words lies the rage against an upcoming death but it's bound to the metrum. It's fighting to break free from it, no matter what.
And that makes it perfect for the film and it shows that you should never give up trying and doing to reach your most wanted desire.
You may write me down in history,
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt,
But still, like dust,
I'll rise.
Tittle- STILL I RISE
Author- Maya Angelou.
The first time i heard this poem was from Serena Williams... she quoted the poem in an acceptance speech for her 21st grandslam award, Eversince it has resonated something in me, No matter how hard i fall on my face, the quotes from this poem reminds me that there's always gonna be a light at the end of the tunnel.

It takes pressure, quite a lot to form some diamonds.
I like to vent about life through art and rhyming.

How do I un love you?
How can I uninstall this emotion operating like a pro version in my heart?
I can't even lie, even though I know you're curled in the arms of your lover, I still want you...badly!

This poetic story is very short but one of my favourites though. It is inspired by the African experience, especially Nigeria.
Mosquito is one of the most dreaded insects in our part of the world. They contribute to a great percentage of death through malaria.
Well, as the poem went: they pray for a safe night hunt...but little did they know: insecticides awaited them. lol
Using this moment also to give a great shout out to one of the persons who contributed to my steemit success by telling me about shadowbot and giving me a few lines of inspiration many months ago on steemit chat...@jonbit.
I have neither reciprocated this good gesture in anyway nor forgotten it. I still have you at heart and will surely make it up to you. Thanks a lot sir.
long live #shadowbot and the entire development team!
"I never take a day off
Work around the clock, my engineer gettin' paid off
Rock like Aesop, light the weed and take off
So high I cannot see, Adolf
Now I got these rappers all breakin' up a sweat
Cause every time I get up on the mic, it come correct-"
Writer : Mac Miller
One of my favorite musicans and producers.
He mentions Aesop Rock <3 Not sure how much of Aesop's stuff you know but this one is great writing and the art is amaaaazing!
My favorite bit from this :
To my people who keep an impressive wingspan
Even when the cubicle shrink
You got to pull up the intruder by the root of the weed
N.Y. Chew through the machine
Oh yeah. Im from MN so rhymesayers is pretty big for most of us here. Eyedea is one of my fiances favorites
Crazy... I thought you were mixing him up with Atmosphere because Aesop is from NY (I'm from back east) but I googled it and lo and behold I never knew he was on that label. I don't keep up as much with it, but that's dope, and now I am also looking through all the other projects they have that I missed.
I really love this poem even though it is so short because it is how we all feel sometimes. It reminds me that when you feel insecure or afraid others do to. It to me is reminding of talking to yourself and believing it is another person. Most of us talk to ourselves but we mostly know it is ourselves. There are times though that we all can admit that the feeling of questioning oneself exists and this poem is a reminder of that for me. He knows this voice is not real, which means he is sane. But he also is afraid of this voice since it is inside his mind. To me it reflects the battles we all face with what is and is not real!
hello guys i want to introduce you very beautiful poem it was written in 1893 by Georgian poet Vazha-Pshavela. i decided to choose this poem because country itself isn't very famous and maybe many of the people haven't heard about it...
Host and Guest
Veiled in the gloom of night
The sweet face of Kisteti
Appears, among hills around,
A rocky throne among cliffs.
The river moans in its dark ravine
Turbid, with grief at its heart.
The mountains too are bowed down,
Laving face and hands in the water;
I chose this poem because as you see poet has his own unfamiliar and wonderful way to describe landscape. also United nations created a peace day with the name of Vazha-pshavela, because he was talking about peace and humanity in his poems in XIX century. i don't know if the poem is translated correctly, i read it on : https://www.poetryintranslation.com/PITBR/Georgian/HostandGuest.php
Vazha Pshavela (real name - Luka Razikashvili) was a Georgian Poet and Novelist who is considered as one of the greatest of Georgian writers and his works are included in the school educational programs one of which is the Guest and the Host.
The Story of the Roebuck was written by Vazha Pshavela in 1883. The plot of the novel is same as plot of the Disney Cartoon "Bambi" which was released 59 years later. Wikipedia says, that Bambi is based on the Bambi, a Life in the Woods by Felix Salten. The latter was published in 1923.
Judge by yourself
I have only heard of it because of news about war and invasions :( thank you for sharing something to show it is filled, just like everywhere, with real humans that are just like everyone all over the world. Not just numbers on Tv :/
"From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.”
― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring
Really loving this as it sends a lot of optimistic vibes on my way. I am not the happiest person alive but I do believe that everything happens for a reason in life and everytime a light will come out no matter what :)
from: Invictus by William Ernest Henley (1875)
For the last two lines I have a deep connection. The lines tell me that I am the captain and I am allowed to determine the course myself. This gives me confidence, motivation and the will to discover new things every time I read.
The poem also plays in Dark Souls. I like it very much.
My entry :) hope you like it.
I like this verse because it shows how humans now a days are very dependent on technologies.
Every time they woke up or going to sleep they always keep their phones on their sides. Its inseparable. Even children's now a days can't really play outside their house because they are pre occupied by the technologies now adays.

I love this poem because its my favorite poem, it was written by me
Mountains of greens pale Blues
with trees Charmed with songs of birds drifting through the thin air
and dozens of Hearts dwindling in the trees like fermented fruit
basking in the sun waiting to be eaten
by the stained teeth of love in turmoil
and the jittery feeling of love
and time-released daylight
all Fade Into Darkness
with a Ring of silence
and racing thoughts

The story is about the Sword of Chaos, forges at the beginning of time. Whoever wields it, is destined to become overpowered by its ego. Its a selfish and jealous sword, and will eventually tell you to kill all your loved ones, until its just you and the sword.
Its name, you ask?
Stormbringer! The black sword of chaos
Elric wields it...until he finds himself alone with it at the end of time...
"I have this feeling that my luck is none too good
This sword here at my side don't act the way it should
Keeps calling me its master, but I feel like its slave
Hauling me faster and faster to an early, early grave
And it howls...
it howls like hell..."

Here is my favorite poem by Shelby Denham
"Walking in the shadow of fear
drowning endlessly by a single tear
running along side of self-discovery
fearing the loss of self-recovery"
I like it because it shows the struggle we all go through in this life to find the meaning of our existence.
Coz I know deep within
That your heart can't be mine
Even though you're with somebody
I will be saving this love for you dear
Coz true love still holds til forever
@moneyinfant has added your contest to the list Steemit Writing Contests: Issue #37. The list is updated on a daily basis and your contest will remain on the list until its expiration - there's nothing you need to do.
The list was created to save writers the excessive amount of time spent searching through the #contest tag for writing contests. Now they can just come to the list each day, see new contests and use their time doing what they love - writing.
If you'd like to help spread the word about the Steemit Writing Contest List I'd really appreciate a resteem, but it certainly isn't necessary. The project is simply meant to help writers save time and contest creators attract more contestants.
P.S. If you know of any contests I've missed I'd love to hear about them. Thanks!

Hi @shadowbot!
So here we go. The reason why I love these lines is that it reminds me of my fellow Filipinos who went abroad to look for greener lands. They thought that the only way to escape from the scarcity of life is to become slaves to foreign countries.Below are the 4 lines taken from the poem Xhunxhiss #2: Ang Bayani Sa Malayong lupa <<<>>> The Hero In A Faraway Land who is authored by me.
Along with their heavy heart, they keep on thinking about their families they left behind. They thought of packing up and returning to the country thousand times but at the end of their thought lies the fear of going back home without nothing to feed to their families. Hence, they could not help it but satisfy their longingness by working harder each day and night and staying strong amidst all difficulties of times.
They are tired of asking for more in life. They only wanted to live without worrying about the basic things they need everyday. They wanted the freedom to live without thinking to leave in their own country and be departed to their loved ones. They dream of a beautiful life and a better future. They prayed hard that sometimes their prayers are not being answered. How could be life so cruel to poor people? And how could life be this way? I don`t know the answers to these questions but one thing I know is that the rainbow only comes up after the rain. So does in life.
Good can be powerful; chaos is easy.
So I flatlined-
A flat ironed cauterized amygdala has freed me
from
The aesthetic sadness of
Scattered
Neon Lights.
You say you miss the moving land,
Crawling,
Infested with life?
Oh.
You have never seen the Earth,
American child
Just the doped up stare of an owned, scared lover.
Choked
Like your dog when she doesn't sit proper.
Author : me
I love this piece because the first part it has a hip hop cadence (which is fun to start a freestyle from when I'm tipsy) , along with a reference to wanting to remove your female (flatiron is for hair straightening) emotional center in a male dominated society that does not seem to value it. I grew up in Maine in the woods like a feral child and would think how sad and tacky neon lights on side sections of Vegas were- we built a completely unsustainable city in the desert and dress it up with glass and gas. Then a sort of a nod to Americans who travel to exotic places, such as the Amazon , and don't really appreciate what Earth is. We talk about and view "the environment" as a seperate entity instead of just everything we exist in. We have our trees held like prisoners on the side walks, and if they grow big enough to have their roots disrupt the sidewalk, we choke them back . A dominance, manipulative mentality that I see all through society, and dog owners since I live by a dog beach and people watch there. Thanks for the chance to share ! <3
This is my own poem, entitled To The Religious Hypocrites
I love this poem. This is when I realized that society really has put a lot of things in a child's mind. Especially things they have no idea yet. Like religion. In my country, you're still a baby and you already have a religion. I don't like that. I want to be able to choose my own religion. And I hate the fact that people tend to rely on something like rosaries, crucifixes, and wooden statues. Why would tou do that? They say to be closer to our Creator. I say, why build a bridge when there's no river. My thoughts.
Ps. At the end of the poem reads "From a Religious Hypocrite"

My entry for contest...
"The Impossible Dream" from
"Man of La Mancha"
This poem always makes me motivate..encourage me alot..
The poem is from
book : Dale Wasserman.
Lyrics : Joe Darion
I want...
To dream the impossible dream
To fight the unbeatable foe
To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run where the brave dare not go..
To right the unrightable wrong
To love pure & chaste from afar
To try when your arms are too weary
To reach the unreachable star

"The stone" is is my favorite poem (written by Anonymous):
I love this poem because it contains beautiful aphorisms of life... do you like it too?
Hello, @shadowbot, I followed your instructions & got an error logging in...
Here are a few lines from my favorite poem, Ars Poetica, by Czeslaw Milosz:
The purpose of poetry is to remind us
how difficult it is to remain just one person,
for our house is open, there are no keys in the doors,
and invisible guests come in and out at will.
I love this poem so much, I've read it in public poetry readings & recorded it to know it better:
https://soundcloud.com/yahia-lababidi/ars-poetica-by-czeslaw-milosz
What speaks to me, deeply, about this piece is that the poet confesses how little he is in control of the creative process. It's an ode to the Muse, as well as the mystery and mysticism of the creative process. But, the poet also says something that we don't hear often in the analysis of works of art--he admits to a negative inspiration.
The "invisible guests" that come in and out of the open doors of our open house, might be evil spirits (the way, for example, Blake said that Milton was of the 'devil's brigade' when he wrote Paradise Lost, but he did not know it).
So, while this passage admits that 'it is difficult to remain one person' because of our shifting moods and inspirations, the poem itself ends on a startling note, namely: the hope that "good spirits, not evil ones, choose us for their instrument."
A peek behind the creative process, the battle between good and evil, what more could one home for from a poem?!
from Two Roads Diverged in a Yellow Wood
by Robert Frost
... I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
Robert Frost is my ideal poet. I have loved his work for 60 years. And this is from one of my favorite poems by him. It influenced my entire life from the age of 10 or so when I first read it. Don't follow the crowd. Don't do what everyone else is doing. At the same time, don't reinvent the wheel. Let others go first and blaze the trail. Then be a first follower. Help set the trends not to be ruled by them. I always try to choose the road less traveled. I highly recommend it.

From my poem Call Of Change
Every poem I write and every verse in it is special to me, I would never dare to choose any spesific one so if I'm entering with these lines, it's only because many people said nice things about them.
My country
How can i describe my country,
Full of pride,
With great people and good leaders,
Full of successfull people.
My country,my country,
Endowed with alot of natural reasources,
In term of soil,
Our soil is fertile, reach in plant.
My country,my country,
Let join's hand's together,
And unite as one,
To move this country.
Day after night...
There's the night when all people sleep,
And all souls travel,
Secretly and rapidly,
Researching, living in their natural state.
But there's you there who cannot sleep,
Just yet...
The pressure of the cold night
Becomes more than you can handle.
You wish Him to be there...
Surrounding you with his strong arms..
Making you feel like in the safest place in the world,
But he's not there...is just you..
And finally sleep comes upon your eyes,
And there's the beautiful new Day,
Showing her Light upon each creature and material things,
Giving you Hope and some sense of confort.
Good morning dear Sun!
This is my first poem entry ever...hope it sounds nice or pretty at least. Thank you for this contest @bigdeej !
