Hi there @whatisnew. You've already "met" my two furballs: Monster on top, Lucifer on the bottom of the picture.

Monster was named Streepje (Stripe in English) by the humans that take care of his parents. We didn't like that name and we thought about names for a couple of days. In that period, he destroyed our furniture, so on day 5 my girlfriend said to him: "You're a real monster aren't you?" And that name stuck to him😀. He's a demolisher no more btw.

Lucifer got his name a little faster. The bright orangey-reddish colour made me wanna name him Duivel (Devil) or Beëlzebub. However, my girlfriend pointed out that calling either of those names out loud (when we wanted him to come inside for instance) might estrange us from our neighbours😂😂😂.
So we called him Lucifer: next to being the fallen angel, it is also the Dutch word for match-stick.

Give Pachino and Ollie a nice big hug from us🐾

This post received a 4.4% upvote from @randowhale thanks to @marcovanhassel! For more information, click here!

Yes, I have met your cuties before and now I know how and why they got their names. I love the story. OMG...Monster...what have you done? LOL! :) I gave Pachino and Ollie a big hug from you which is easy for me to do. I am always giving them hugs and kisses. Now please give Monster and Lucifer hugs and kisses from me. Thanks so much for the picture! :)

nuch.jpg

Her name is Nuchka. 11 Years old. I chose the name because it's a name you don't hear very often. Unique; just like her.

She is also a rescued cat. Can't believe I got so lucky to have this beauty in my life.

Nuchka sure is beautiful; just like her name. I love to hear about rescues. Thank you for taking care of her and loving her the way you do. Such a happy ending. :)

OOOMMMMMGGGGG very fluffy cat! I want to cry now!

If you ever decide to give away Nuvhka, I am very happy to adopt her. ^_-

Hello @whatisnew I rescued a cat that had a deformed tail at 7 weeks old. He love to whiz around in circles when he played. He also has the sweetest little purr when you scratch the side of his face. We named him "Whizzpurrzz" to match his personality. We have had him for 12 years now and he still has the sweetest, softest purr. He may not whizz around the room anymore, more like a gentleman's saunter now.

"Whizzpurrzz"

omg,

cuteness!

I love that name...so original. :) Thank you so much for rescuing him. You have given him a great life. At 12 years old, I can't see him whizzing around in circles now; more like walking around in circles. He is a cutie. Thanks so much for the picture! :)

You are so welcome, we love rescuing the ones that no one else will take. They put them down here after a month in the shelters. So we do our best. We just had a cat that was adopted die last year at 19. He just got too old to walk well and started collapsing off and on. We made the decision to put him down. I swear, when the vet gave him a shot to relax him, he looked at me as if to say, but wait I am not ready... Wow, that so took my by surprise and literally broke my heart for him. Isn't it amazing how attached we can become to the little ones. Have a great week ahead, I look forward to getting to know you better @whatisnew

You are so sweet. :) I know all about the shelters; I used to volunteer at one and my heart and mind, just couldn't take it any longer. I do remember you telling me about your 19 year old cat. OMG! My heart sank when you said that he looked up to you as if to say, but wait I am not ready. Maybe he was saying, "Thank you!" Oh yes, it is so easy to get so attached. I look forward to our new friendship as well! :)

Stripe?

Do you have a cat named Stripe @ppagoda? If you do, you must say why you picked that name...it is in the rules. :)

I have a pet fish call stripe.

LOL! HaHa! You are so funny @ppagoda! Sorry, but that does not work for this contest. But please do tell Stripe that I said Hi! And thanks for the laugh! LOL! :)

This is the time I bring Kitty home and after shower...Cute

My cat called Kitty
My little girl get this name from the Japanese cartoon called " Hello Kitty" . When the first time she met the cat , she say " Hello Kitty :) .I have saved this cat from being hit by a car on the road. This cat is alone on the street and almost hit by a car. I stopped my car and bring it home. The cat is dirty and starving. I give it a shower and feed it foods. Kitty is so cute and always following me. Kitty like to cuddle with me too. I LOVE KITTY ;)

I have upvoted, resteem and followed :)

Meet my beautiful Cat Dusty!

IMG_9200.PNG

Dusty was a stray and she would often come into my girlfriend's mother's house. She seemed to collect all the dust from everywhere, so we aptly named her Dusty. :-D

IMG_8660.PNG

Dusty is adorable and I love her name. Thanks for the beautiful photos. I sure do appreciate it! :)

Aw, thank you so much @whatisnew! She is adorable indeed and you're welcome. This is a lovely contest and my fingers are crossed. Following and Upvoted.

Thanks for your kind words about this contest. And thanks for the up and follow. :) Likewise! :)

You're welcome and thanks @whatisnew. :-)

Hi there, I have upvoted, followed and resteemed.

My cat is called Bing Clawsby... I was very close to my grandpa and he loved to listen to Bing Crosby. I remember many happy hours sitting with him listening to his music, so my cat's name reminds me of my grandpa.

Cats are so cute LOL

and cheeky

I love how you named your cat with remembrance of your Grandpa and I love the name, "Clawsby." Thanks for these cute pictures and for the resteem. :)

Thanks... he was a good man and its nice to have him in my mind

who won?

The winners will be chosen tonight, July 31st at 11:00 PM EST! Good Luck!

Fun! Meet Mr. J. Catsby, or "JJ," and Daisy.
Image of D&J

As you probably guessed, they're named after characters from The Great Gatsby, one of my LEAST favorite books.

I wanted kitties, my boyfriend was lukewarm on the idea.

My boyfriend is also a high school English teacher. And he thinks that F. Scott Fitzgerald was brilliance incarnate.

The exchange was that he could pick the names and I could have the cats. Mr. J. Catsby quickly became JJ because that is a stupidly long name.

Of course, he's now smitten with them (as am I!), but, adorably, not as much as they are with each other.

OMG! They are adorable! :) I love the exchange; a perfect compromise. Thank you so much for sending the picture. I really enjoyed it and your story! :)

Hee hee funny!!!! :))))

This is Mia. She's a rescue. She was removed from a home where owners neglected her. As a result, she has only a few teeth left, and must have a wet-food only diet.

She's five and has only been in her new home for four days now. We chose to keep her original name of Mia on the basis that it wasn't fair to rename her at this age. She's been purring for a few days straight now, and is settling in well.

Aw, I am so happy to hear that you rescued Mia! Good for you! She looks very cute and content. Thanks for the picture! :)

What a nice contest, i love to enter. I got two cats - brother and sister. The catur is named Koekert, which means ' not beeing all to clever' but in a sweet way. Here he is:

PhotoGrid_1501347218858.jpg

His sister is named Dzjenghis - she is very cute and funny and clever but also very dangerous.
He she is:

PhotoGrid_1501347814445.jpg

Thank you for your kind words about this contest! :) I absolutely love the picture of Koekert. And Dzjenghis looks too relaxed to be dangerous. What a cute pair. :) Thanks so mush for the pictures! :)

What they are funny and cute !!!!

We have 4 cats now as the 5th one died recently (July 26) and I wrote a post about it here on steemit.

I would like to enter his name in here. He is MAW.

He was named Maw cause of the sound of his meowing and he is a loud "meower". I noticed him for meowing a lot for food outside in our gate before when he was just around 3-4 months old.

()

I just read your post about Maw and his sudden passing. I am so sorry for your loss. My heart is heavy for you now. It is so difficult losing a beloved pet. RIP Maw.

we named our cat Jinx , we picked her up in the animal shelter Dec 2016, they told us she was almost one year old. Her shelter name was "spritz" after a cookie... when we arrived at home it was clear it was a little rascal , a typical female she likes the attention but don't touch :) She loves to play , catching flies , and has an obsession for the other pet in the house my daughters Hamster Olaf.
A6000-25-11-2016-00330.jpg

We wanted to give her a name that suits her and not related to anyone we know human or pets .
A6000-25-11-2016-00337.jpg

she has a great tuxedo and really can be a great model with lots of expressions on the face .
![A6000-09-12-2016-00540.jpg}()

she has an addiction on shoe lases , and since she needs to be corrected a lot we decided Jinx suits her.

A6000-12-12-2016-00686.jpg

Beautiful Jinx! :) Typical female...LOL! The story was great; I am still smiling! :) And thanks so much for the pictures. I really enjoyed them. :)

my pleasure have a great day

A pretty face! She was very lucky

and so are we with her company :)

I love this idea! What a cute way to get all those kitties out here! My cat's name is Kitty, which is all my fault that she has no real name. She was born in my flower garden on Christmas Eve - her mother was a feral cat. I wasn't going to keep her, so I didn't want to name her, but, here she is, years later... still the Kitty. Upped and Steemed

Thank you for your kind words about my contest. Kitty is adorable! What a beautiful Christmas gift you found in your garden! Thanks for the photo, up and resteem! :)

Thank you! ❤

OMG you have a cat too! I have two cats ^_-

You have a beautiful cat dswigle! Is there any cats lover community here? ^_-

I named my cat "Barang" which means white foriegner. Whenever we see white people come to our country, we always say "Barang" and this term refers to the French people because we were under French colonization for almost a century. This term has been used from that time and now even American or British, we still call them "Barang" because they are white and so does my cat. She has white and fluffy fur.

That sure is an interesting name for your white cat. :)

Kiwi -- Because he is a strange fruit! He was a feral cat. He was skin and bones when we trapped him. He is not very bright. It took him 3 years to learn to groom himself. He likes to lay in his litterbox, after he's used it! He lived under my treadmill for a month, then moved to living under a credenza for another month. He went outside and the wind blew -- he disappeared for three days until one of our other cats escorted him home, shoulder to shoulder. Every day is new to him. He is a sweetheart, though, and loves to be in my lap.

111846705_tsu_P1060420-1.jpg

He is beautiful. I really enjoyed your story about Kiwi and I love that name. A feral that is now tame enough to sit on your lap. What a happy ending. Thanks for sending the beautiful picture of Kiwi...love that close-up shot. :)

DEXTER was a 4 week old kitten brought to a shelter in a shoe box. On the end of the shoe box was the words Dexter Shoes. So the staff at the shelter named him DEXTER. I wound-up fostering him, then adopting and kept the name.

DEXTER today

Cute story. I would have kept that name too. Love the pictures; he never lost his cuteness! :) Or should I say, "He is so handsome." No, sorry; I have to say he is beautiful! Looks like Dexter is doing yoga. So cute.

He should have been a girl, but he's all boy. Rascal.

I see you broke the bank on your Greenhouse story.. WoW. I thought I was reading it wrong. Very nice job .

Thanks. You should have seen my face! that was all made possible because @greenacrehome submitted the story to Curie for an upvote. I never even heard of Currie before. I sure am grateful! :)

We chose Japanese food names for these two litter mates (yes, that's right, they're from the same litter - Meowmy was busy that night!):

Futomaki is the black fluffy one, and that means "fat roll" which is a kind of sushi roll, and Shoga is the sleek Siamese, and his name is Japanese for "ginger root".

Why sushi names? Because we love sushi, and we thought that they were pretty contrasting in personality, but they're still brothers and they'd been through a lot by the time we adopted them. Having a sushi roll (Futo) by itself is great, and ginger (Shoga) by itself is great, but when you have the two together it's the best!

Thanks for this cute contest!

They are both beautiful! I love the way you told the story about their names. Maybe I should rename one of my cats "Futomaki" because he is huge. I am so happy to hear that you adopted them and gave them a great home. Thank you for the picture; I really enjoyed it! :)

Thanks! I hope to post soon the story about the cats we've had, starting with the sweet one we lost, and ending with these two crazies. :D

I can't wait to read it. Please let me know when you post it. I already wrote about the 2 cats that I have now. I have been writing about my sweet one that died 3 years ago and I have to keep stopping and putting it aside because I miss him so much. My JB...RIP.

Oh, I know the loss of a furry friend is really hard. We had our Panda for 17 years, and we had to put him down. That was the hardest thing we had to do. :(

It sure is hard. 17 years is a good long life. Panda? I take it he was black and white?

No, silly, all black LOL. But he had the personality of a rolly-poly panda :)

Loading...

I chose Garfield because I had always enjoyed the comic so when I got a cat I had to name it Garfield

I also enjoyed Garfield. Thanks for your entry! :)

I have named my cat as 'Garfield' .He really looks like the cartoon garfield and has a big belly lol.

Garfield is a popular name for fat cats; especially for the cats that look like him. Thanks for your entry! :)

My kitty is Suzi... she was super tiny little grey furball when we saved her. Only 2 or 3 weeks old and we had no idea how to name her. It had to be something simple.

Now that name came up with some other creature. There are those harmless strange bugs that appear in homes sometimes. I have no idea what they are called so just to identify them somehow I started to call them crawling Suzis. They are small and greyish too.

So there... when kitty moved in and the name came up... it was just fitting her perfectly at that time. Small, grey, crawling bug :D

OMG...only 2 or 3 weeks old? Thank you for saving her! :) I love the story of Suzi. Thanks for your entry! :)

Yeaaaa she was very very tiny! I was bottle feeding her... such a cute baby :)

very interesting!!! I also want to participate in this contest! :))) the name of the cat - Xenophont! As the name of the earl or prince of noble birth :))) in fact, the cat came to us himself when he was still a very small kitten. Grandmother was cleaning up near the entrance to the house and left the door open. The kitten went into the apartment, resembled all the rooms (we went after him and watched what would happen next). The kitten finished bypassing our apartment in the kitchen. He chose place there, and slept. We could not drive him out into the street again. So he stayed with us. Despite his noble name, we call him in the family in a simple way: Sema :)

Sema is beautiful or should I say "handsome" and I love his story! I am so happy to hear that you kept him. Thank so much for his photo. :)

Thank you for such an interesting idea with the contest! I got a lot of fun reading the comments. So nice that there are so many people with a good heart !!

Thanks for your kind words @tali72! It is so very nice to see and hear their stories; all with loving hearts! I would say that all of the cats here are sooooooo very lucky! :)

Yes! it's true!!!!!!!!

i do not have the cat my dear...any way , up & rs

Well aren't you the sweetest dear friend! Thank you! :)

ya.thank you:)

Upvoted, thanks! My cat's name is Zoe. I always wanted that name but not bold enough to change my existance and change it so she got it, lol! She is about 5 years old now....I can't figure out how to get a picture of her here. I'm still new to Steemit....

Happy to hear that your cat got the name that you wanted for yourself. I like it! :) No problem about the photo; I just learned how to do it. I would explain it to you but I really don't know how to. Hopefully, someone will read this and will be able to explain it to you. Sorry I couldn't help you. :(

This is such a fun contest. I love it!!!
Well, this is Pepper as you already know. We named her after Iron Man's secretary/girl friend? Pepper Potts. It was the name we heard over and over because my daughter, she was 4 years old, was in love with Iron Man and that was all she talk about. "What's Iron Man's girl friend name? PEPPER!!! LOL

IMG_20140920_231214.jpg

I am glad to hear that you like this contest. So now I know how my favorite cat Pepper, got her name. I bet your daughter was thrilled with the name you chose. And now I am thrilled because I get to look at Pepper, up close. Adorable! :)

I once had two kitties and at the time I liked the names Pixie and Pepsi. They had a baby and I named it Sprite! I thought I was so clever because Sprite is both another word for a pixie (faerie) and another soda drink!!!

I never really know why I name my animals the names I do, they kind of just come to me and feel right. Ha

Pixie, Pepsi and Sprite! LOL! I love it! Has a nice ring to it. A very clever person with a clever mind to pick out such clever names. :)

Oh you. :) <3 thanks!

This is Casserole. Cassie for short. She was not real bright.., but well loved. image

Casserole? That is a first for me. LOL! Why did you pick that name? (that is part of the rules.) She is so cute. You are the second person who said that their orange cat is not too bright. It must be a trait for them. You said, "was." Sorry to hear that. Thanks for sharing the picture! :)

I think I had read that name for a cat in a book. I don't remember for sure, but she was just rather ditzy and needed a ditzy name!

A ditzy name for a ditzy cat! LOL! :)

FLUFFY because he is fluffy as fuck...also he's so darn cute. :?
