RE: what's happening with the contests.

in #contests6 years ago

I don't know. There are less contests these days than before. I don't know if it has to do with the bear market, but most accounts that do contests, have a ton of SBD or Steem, so I'm not sure what makes those contests drop. The typical contests have just reduced to a less frequency.

Sort:

I run the dance contest since July 2017 and it's one of the longest running contests here on Steemit. The reason why I can do that is because I sponsor my own contest. I had a few generous Steemians in the past who supported the dance contest but I'm not having any now. I have very little STEEM in my account and among all the music and dance projects that I run, I gave away more STEEM than what I have in my account right now.
I assume there are several reasons why some contests are disappearing and they could be:

  1. The organisers don't earn any STEEM out of the contests due to the price of STEEM.
  2. The post that announces the contest does not receive enough upvotes and support.
  3. The contest does not have any sponsors.

All the Best!

That makes a lot of sense and are very valid reasons. Also, with a bear market, some peop,e are less active on Steem, thus less upvotes and participation to contests, less value of total upvotes to that contest. If it's a net loss sometimes it's better to pause and wait. The reason Steem Mobsters contests are still doing strongly, is that they are giving away cards, so even with little Steem, it doesn't matter.
